Sincere condolences. Bike thieves are the lowest scum of the planet. To lose them all, too. It's just not fair, huh?

Ya kinda wish for an out-of-control bus when the thief and his crew are out on their first ride on their very cheap bikes and the cops sent to clean-up the mess are the same deadbeats that didn't give a damn.

I sincerely hope your luck changes.

That sucks.

Check Craigslist in the surrounding areas. They might show up for sale.

...super bummer. I'm guessing someone cleaned out your garage.

If it's anything, the cops here in Sacramento care now, but only started doing so recently.
They are actually running a bait bike program here now, and publicizing the offenders caught.

It might be doing some good, but it's early in the process.

The Supersport is really distinctive... will share the details with friends in the area who frequent Cl and would recognize a bike this sweet.

These posts pop up way too often on this forum. As a fellow bike theft victim, I can relate to your feelings of being violated. My one piece of advise to all my bicycle brothers & sisters is to at least keep photos and a record of the serial numbers of ALL your bikes & frames. Minneapolis just incorporated a free bicycle registry last summer, and I might even suggest that people register there even if they're not local. At the very least, you'd have a dated record of the bicycle logged by law enforcement somewhere. Who knows... maybe a patchwork national registry may evolve if enough cities build databases. My condolences. Hopefully all your hard work made the bikes unique enough that you can recover them.

Oh man. So wrong. Notify some local shops. Shops around here often tell bike thieves to scram and leave their ill-gotten bikes behind.... it's surprising that they try to sell them in there.

I'd keep pressing the angle that anyone who is willing to break/enter into your garage is eventually going to lead to violence when someone is eventually home on the day they break in. Usually the police will be more willing to help.

I was once persistent, yet helpful, to the police, after being robbed violently on the street, and I was able to help put some of the responsible people away for a very long time. You just have to be nice and have the right angle.

That's horrible, I've had two Schwinn World Sports stolen from me (one had the lock cut, one out of my garage) and although neither were worth a lot monetarily, both were sentimental from being in the family awhile and lots of time bringing them back to life. I agree to watch craigslist, and not just the local one but all around the area. Also, I've had friends who found their stolen bikes on CL but with different seats, handle bars, etc. The bike thief rings get a bunch of bikes, play musical chairs with the components to make them look different and then resell. So keep an eye out for the right frame even if it may be spray painted with different components (should be pretty obvious, doubt there are many 70s Schwinn frames for sale in GA). Good luck with the hunt!

Yep. It sucks. If you find any of these on CL, pretend you're a Joe average buyer and then bring your three biggest friends along and just repossess it. Don't bother trying to get your local cops involved.

If it's any condolence, the cops wouldn't be giving a sh*t if they stole your car, either. "Fill out the form buddy, we'll call you if anything turns up."

Echoing the same sentiments as the above posters, I am sorry for your loss. This is something I worry and think about all the time, especially in the city I live in and the neighborhood my home is placed. I agree with the comments above on documenting serial numbers. In fact, it's the first thing I do when I get a "keeper" home is photograph it thoroughly and make it a point to take a few high-res shots of the serial number and any very distinct markings.
Another thing I have started doing is locking up my bikes. All my Kryptonite U-Locks are now locked to the frame and rear wheel of my higher end bikes. Some bikes have lower end but still very thick, heavy cables locking them to themselves. A thief could get through it in due time but still, it's a slight deterrent.
It's slightly annoying having to go through unlocking them when the wife and I want to go for a ride but it helps give me just a little more piece of mind while I sleep at night.

I'm a Craigslist junkie so you can bet I'll keep an eye out too.

Hopefully the criminal scumbags will be dumb/desperate enough to post the bikes on Craigslist or eBay - it'd make recovery that much easier.

I troll CL on a regular basis, so I'll keep eyes open as well.

Major bummer. I'd definitely see if you can get an insurance claim. It may be a pain to document how much you have in them, but replacement value of four bikes should be well over $1500.

My bikes are NEVER in a garage (which I don't even have, anyway). ALWAYS inside the house. I got a Performance indoor bike rack in my bedroom with four bikes on it and it takes up hardly any room. I live in a one-bedroom apartment so space is at a premium. My "art bike" (an unfinished Schwinn cruiser) is on top of my china cabinet and my "shopping" bike is locked up on the back porch under a tarp (basement in the winter). I know, sounds crazy but garages seem to be thief magnets.
The neighborhood where I live is very bohemian, "Greenwich Village" type area and we have a lot of bicycles and vintage motorcycles here. Many of the residents here are retired ex-hippies, artists, writers, college students, and other assorted young people who work odd shifts. There are a lot of "eyes-on-the-street" and it seems that everybody has a dog, too, so property thefts here are relatively low.

Sad to say but there is a 50% chance those bikes are long gone South of the border to Mexico or South America by now. When it comes to nicer high end vintage bikes, motorcycles or cars stolen about half are by professional thieves that have them in a cargo container or truck headed out of the country usually within a day or so of being stolen. But I wouldn't give up hope report the the stolen bikes and details with photo's to local and even federal authourities and yes even online sources like here and ebay. If fully reported and very quickly there is a 20% chance or so of recovery.

I am truly sorry for your loss. This perhaps my biggest fear now. When I was searching for a replacement for my old Trek 930 I ended up entering the C&V realm with the Olmo. Now it is the bike I am most protective. The modern CF Bianchi and even the old MTB are relatively easy to replace but the C&V is bit more difficult.
