Restomod or not?
I have an 84 Specialized Sequoia mostly original and would like some advice as how far I should go with restoration. Am tentatively planning to powdercoat and modernize some of the components. As far as modernization wheels, brakes, and rear derailleur is the limit. The powdercoating is where I could use some advice looking to go with a standard Sequoia color white, royal blue, or trying to match the present grey. Question comes in should I have it redecaled with original decals or leave it generic? The expense of recalling is fairly high, but at the same time would raise the resale value somewhat if I ever decided on selling the bike.
Opinions!?

I'd definitely put as close to the original decals as possible on it. I'd do blue and white maybe if the powdercoaters can do two tone. Maybe white main tubes and blue everything else.

To each his own but I kinda like to justify upgrading/updating my bikes. The frame is still original on my '86 Volpe but I've upgraded most everything else. I changed the wheels from Sansin FW hubs to Shipmano 7spd cassette, (also because I built several bikes using this hub size so I don't have 11 bikes with 11 differetn rear hubs) for the stronger axle design, a triple crank replaced the double, although I don't use it much here on the edge of the prairie. RD was changed from the Suntour to a 8spd Campi to better handle the wrap of the triple. Still thinking about the brakes but I hate fooling with Cantis so I keep putting it off.

Potential museum pieces should be cherished and kept in their original boxes.
But the Specialized Sequoia is not one of those. It does look like a very nice and - more importantly - versatile bike. It would lend itself very well to resto-modding, retro-modding or whatever-modding. No limits, as far as I am concerned.

I don't think resale value can justify much extra expense these days. The market is very soft. Do the decals if they will make you happier.

84, present mods Nitto 177 44cm bars Nitto stem, Specialized Flag 175 Cranks, and Shimano 600 hubs MA2 rims. Planned mods Ultegra 6500 hubs Open Elite rims, and 105 11spd Rear. Derailleur. As mentioned previously stock Sequoia color for powdercoat.
