Anybody have suggestions on a good water bottle? The one I have now leaves the water tasting like plastic. They don't all do that , do they?

They vary. Camelbacks seem pretty good to me.

+ 1. Most waterbottles as far as I'm concerned work pretty well but the camelbacks are a cut above esp. with the valve system.

Be careful about bottles that say BPA-free. Some of them just substituted BPS for BPA. BPS is even worse than BPA.

Try the 'Purist Hydroflo' bottle, best one I've ever used and adds no plastic flavor to the water, made with resins instead of BPA plastics. They also have a spill proof mouthpiece.

Bicycle water bottles are generally made to be squeezable - these plastics were never made with BPA.

My water bottle I use everyday I ride are from an event in 1995, The Specialized Cactus Cup. 20 years old, and still working. They hold water be it warm, cold, or iced.

I like the bottles from REI that have a well defined "waist." Makes them easy to handle. I don't know about the taste, I'm not very particular as long as it's wet.

I'll vote for the Camelbak bottles, as well. I have been using their Podium Big Chill bottles for several years now, and I really like them.

I just switched to a "Purist" bottle and love the clean taste. They are available with different brand labels, such as Specialized, Whiskey Parts Co, etc, but all are marked "Purist" somewhere on the side. Prices range from $11-15, so they aren't cheap, but so far I think mine is well worth $11. Since all plastics break down with age and sun exposure, I wouldn't use one more than a few years. I'd certainly never use one 20 years old, like TheManShow!

I've been known to leave water in the bottle after a ride and forget to refill with fresh water before the next ride. In that case, the water will definitely taste like plastic. The old water also may contain carcinogens from the plastic. Sorry if this info is too obvious to be worth mentioning.

Some folks say they put warm drinks in their water bottles. Bad idea, for the reason stated above.

A hot-weather tip I remember hearing: Slip a wet athletic sock over the bottle. The wetness will evaporate during the ride and keep the bottle contents cooler. The drink will taste better and probably be healthier.

Sigg and Zefal Aluminum, they're a no taste imparting, epoxy Lined . caps let air in to easily let water out, without squeezing.

Camelbak Podium insulated and non insulated here. They work perfectly and I toss in the dishwasher when done.

This, except for the dishwasher. I just rinse mine with water and leave them upside down in the dish rack to dry.

Another vote for purist. Western Bikeworks sells theirs for something like $7, if you want to try one on the cheap. I have the insulated version (x2) and I find it does a lovely job. Water left in one for a month still tastes like water.

Camelback Podium Big Chill insulated 25oz bottle. Once I found these the rest of my water bottles became obsolete. They rule!!!

I use a stainless steel bottle I got from Walmart. It is the same size as the large plastic bottles. It even has the neck down area so it works fine in the bottle holder. No plastic taste of course, and should last forever. And----it only cost $4.50.

The big bugaboo is leaving water in bottles. If you dry them (as best you can) after every use, most bike bottles don't taste like plastic.

In the summer I prefer insulated bottles (keeps water cool and palatable until I drink it). I've found Polar bottles to keep water cool longer than similarly sized Camelbacks.
