How to Become a Superstar at Road Bike Racing

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How to Become a Superstar at Road Bike Racing

Any tips or hints? I have the legs and the determination, just not really the budget. How does one become the next Lance? Any help appreciated ^_^

If you have the legs and determination, you should be able to dominate on a POS bike.

Just stop by your local Radio Shack and ask for Lance? Maybe he will take you in as an apprentice.

But first make sure you shave your legs or they might laugh at you.

In between races watch American Flyers and Breaking Away almost exclusively.

I feel like if I had the legs and determination to be the next bike superstar I would be out riding whatever my budget could afford ($100 bikes are all over craigslist), entering races, getting results, and hoping to be picked up by a team/sponsor.

Determination to sit and post a thread asking how to become a bike superstar would be low down the list of steps in order to become said superstar. Heck, if I was that serious I would sell my computer in order to pick up a bike.

If you don't have the budget because you spent all your money on a closet sized refrigerator, you may be on the right path.
