Is this frame suitable for fixed gear?
Hi all,
I found this nice frame in the attic and I was wondering if this could be used to make into a fixed gear bike. I know it's a vertical drop-out frame but more than that I don't know. This is also the rear wheel that came with it.
Cheers.

I wouldnt bother.. Too many brake mounts. Would maybe make a decent winter singlespeed, but its probably not worth the trouble.

I'd just cut off the brake mounts that I didn't want but to me the vertical dropouts kill it. I know there's ways around that but part of selecting the right frame is picking one that minimizes the problems and compromises you'll have to deal with later on.

what is wrong with brake mounts? better to have more brake options rather than fewer. but the vertical drop outs kill it, like retro said above. unless you want to deal with figuring out a "magic" gear ratio that gives you correct chain tension i would get a different frame.

I bet the OP is thinking to him/herself, "glad I asked."
I don't think there is anything wrong with the brake mounts other then it makes it look less acceptable to __________.

Canti bosses and disc tabs are rad, ignore the haters! Especially on the fork - I doubt road calipers will go on there. Vertical dropouts, probably 135mm spacing kinda suck though.
If you measure the chainstays there's a site you can go to that will tell you which magic ratios you have to choose from.

Yep, probably weighs 6 lbs, has only 50mm travel, just plain sucks.

Thanks guys. Probably saves me a lot of trouble later on. Maybe I'll convert this thing into a regular singlespeed and buy myself a decent frame for the fixie.
