Could the curly stays come around sometime in the modern period? How iconic were these British steeds, or were they just going for a gimmick?

70s Schwinn Paramounts with a contemporary flare
Townie build with nice parts include a kickback hub. If anyone is interested in splitting this, I could actually use the wheelset and can facilitate the rest for you. I'd be tempted to buy the whole thing if it fit me.
In other news, there was a fellow thinning his supposed worthy herd of early seventies Paramounts advertising in different C-list US locations, claiming to be a nephew of his ailing uncle and not accepting any other forms of payments besides online. He also claimed to be a trucker that said would pass through these locations, where he would advertised. I SMELLED A SCAM, nonetheless and had to make a hard pass on a too-good-to-be-true scenario.

I grew up just 90 minutes from that area. The greater Chicago metropolis has anything but a shortage of bike boom European bikes made in Asia. A highlight of mine was when I got an eighties Stumpjumper Sport with a bi-plane fork for twenty dollars from a resident near the Hoffman Estates.

The North Bay area certainly does have its berth in these "community sales"- whether its through a non-profit, user swap meets, or hell, even at the local flea market! There was a nice 80s sequoia specialized in my size at a community bike source near Santa Rosa. Kicking myself regardless for not following up!

Jack recalled a curly frame that he had seen on a stand at the Lightweight Cycle Exhibition at the Floral Hall. It had been made by Maurice Selbach who had said it was just a fancy idea. Not to Jack it wasn't! If the front forks curve to absorb road shocks, he thought, then why shouldn't I try to do the same thing with the rear stays?
He built his first frame with a gentle curve in the seat stays and the 'S' bend in the chain stays. The idea worked, the bends did damp the road shocks, but there was an unexpected benefit. The 'S' removed a great deal of the flexing of the bottom bracket zone.
The frame was given to one of the hard men of cycling to try, Harry Rothwell. In order to toughen himself and to test the frame thoroughly, Harry carried two house bricks in his saddle bag.

I'm not a fan of the curly stay look myself, but they were always optional I think.

Vintage 1960 or 1961 Bianchi Specialissima for Sale. This is a spectacular opportunity for any collector of fine vintage Italian bicycles. This Bianchi appears to be all original with very limited original patina. This bike has NOT been restored or modified from its original specification. With consideration paid to the presence of old tires, this bike is fully ready to ride. All Campagnolo components, as delivered, with Universal brakes. Comes with the original FIAMME wheelset and a set of more modern Ambrosio 19 Elite wheels (1980's), as installed on the bike in the pictures. One interesting data point from the U.S. guitar market (make what you will of this regarding bikes): Guitar Center, which is by far the biggest presence in the bricks-and-mortar musical instrument business in the U.S., recently announced that because their stores are substantially overstocked with used instruments, amplifiers, effects pedals, etc., they are severely cutting back on the number of used items they will consider for purchase or trade-ins.

Some of the bikes have come down, but others have gone up, not sure what that's all about. For example; my 84 Fuji Club I bought at a garage for $40 about 13 years ago was worth $800 about 5 years ago, today it's down to around $450; however my Raleigh Competition GS was worth about $500 5 years ago has gone up to over $1,500! Why did those two react in two different directions over the same period of time? There are more Raleigh Competitions for sale then there is Fuji Clubs so you would think the number for sale would affect the prices, so I don't know, but that just goes to prove, don't buy a vintage bicycle thinking you're going to make money, because the market is fickle. Buy a vintage bike for the joy that it brings you instead and don't worry about selling it for more money. This is true with any type of collection from vintage cars, to coins, to stamps, etc, etc, etc.
