Biking health benefits and life changes

I wanted to know some of the changes you have received once you started biking? Even if it something like clearer thinking anything you know Notice

less money
more fatigue, tired all the time
less social life
more susceptibility to common colds, esp after a few weeks of training lots

in many ways this sport is unhealthy... but health (or fitness) has never been why im in this game

ediT: i should add that I was a healthy, fun loving individual (college sophmore running ~30mi or so/week) before I started riding so I can't say it made me feel healthier.

Biggest benefit for me is the impact that a good, hard ride to work has on my mood and energy levels. When I ride to work, I bounce into the office. When I drive, I'm usually annoyed and stressed out. It really sets the tone for the whole day.

Biking health benefits and life changes

Became an interest that became a hobby that led to making new friends that helped me gain skills that landed me a job.

It wakes me up when I have a morning commute.

And in general makes me very happy when I ride.

-Money, not overly ahead, but not in debt, aka comfortable.
-Am generally a ball of energy.
-I actually have a social life.
-I hardly ever get sick.

Energy and never getting sick comes down to a proper diet and getting a sufficient amount of sleep(6-8 hours).

Exercise releases endorphins... Endorphins make you feel happy... I wish my knees felt happy But seriously, I always feel better when I'm riding - especially after an ass kicking one.

Without a doubt, lower bp and better cardio. Saved a lot of money on gasoline & parking. Those complaining that cycling is unhealthy, you're doing it wrong. I mean just getting out in the fresh air & sun for a walk is a healthier lifestyle. A casual ride is going to be so much healthier than a weekend behind a computer or tv.

My turn:
100# in about a year.

October 2011

To this (this was last october, I'm fitter now, this was at like 90# lost)-

The trickle down of energy is amazing, I spring out of bed in the morning, don't huff up stairs... Quit drinking... Sometimes, you're ready to turn it around, you just need the slightest nudge.

Hell yeah dude, that's ****ing awesome!

I quit smoking, and severely cut down drinking as well. I'm that last grueling 10lbs away from my goal weight.

In my experience it has been the opposite. I feel more energetic and never get sick. Its when I stop riding that I start feeling crappy.

I make it a point to eat well and get enough rest, though.

I generally could use more rest. Which would mean less social life

Again I was pefectly healthy with more time and less expenses b4 I started cycling. That's all I'm saying.

While I do get sick more often, it's mostly just head cold(s) periodically and I rarely get like flu sick, mayb once every other year or so.

Yet I persist

Cycling for me is as much for fun as it is a way for me to fulfill the OCD, goal-oriented and analyitcal part of my mind. I enjoy planning my riding and resting weeks in advance, and love feeling tired and sore as ****.
