Removing V brake posts

Can the V brake post on a Santana be removed? I recenty installed a rear disc brake and would like to remove the post to clean up the frame.

What material is the frame made of ? You could hacksaw them off, file them down smooth and use touch up paint.

I wouldn't do it, however.

1) it eliminates the option to go back to V brakes, or to run a V brake and a disc.

2) it will hurt resale value.

3) you could potentially mess up the frame in the process.

I took them off of my Team Scandium that came with Dura-Ace brakes. Just unscrew them. I found some plastic plugs at the hardware store and capped off the holes.

I agree with merlinextraligh. I have seen new tandems with unused rear canti studs and a rear disk. Options are good.

I think they just unscrew. I recall that there are little flats on the post that could be removed with an open end wrench.

I own two steel Santanas and they are brazed or welded on. Aluminum frames may have the screw on version, I have never looked at one.

That's helpful. I have seen the flat spots on other bike brands but my Santana does not have them so I thought they were welded on.

Which model of Santana do you have and how old is it.
Mine is a 2007 Team Scandium and the post DO unscrew.
Before I did it I called Santana and asked before I put a wrench on it.
Been post free for Five years now.

2004 Arriva cromoly There are no flat spots to put a wrench on. I had thought about inserting a bolt with two nuts to lock the bolt in place and then trying to unscrew the post.

My bet is they are welded on since your frame is steel. Don't do anything rash or you will make it look worse than bare posts.
Mine had wrench flats.
