1987 Nishiki Olympic 12 specs?

Hey all:

Does anybody know the spec on this bike, or happen to have a catalog scan from '87? There's one very reasonably priced on CL that I'm considering looking at, but I'm interested to know weight in particular, plus original components, etc. before I spend the time to check it out. The geometry looks relatively like a "sports tourer", am I right about that? From the pics I've found it doesn't look as upright as a road racer.

The early 1970s Olympics were essentially Schwinn Continental equivalents, albeit w/ lugs and crank cotters. By the 1980s it was a respectable sub-30 lb sports tourer.

^ What he said. It's probably a pretty nice bike, but low end. By 1987 pretty much any sport-touring bike from Japan was pretty nice. It would have come with the lower-spec alloy components, rather than the higher-spec alloy components, but definitely not junk.

my guess is not alot different than my 82/83 when it was new

Araya rims with "Iforeget the brand" decent aluminum hubs with quick release

alloy seat post, stem and bars

Diacompe side pulls

Suntour VX deraillers

Suntour power shifters on the downtube

Sugino crank

so all in all very functional, servicable

I may be mistaken but I think by 1987 it would have switched to Shimano Light action. I believe they were made by Kawamura using Tange tubing, not the high end, but not gas pipe either. Most bikes in that class, and I've owned a few, would be about 25 lbs. When they switch to Olympic Tri A they became slightly higher end.

Here's a link to the 1987 Catalog. Should have all of the information you're looking for in terms of specs. Geometry appears to be exactly like the Prestige model from that year.

Whoops, looks like Hummerb beat me to it.

Pity the catalog there doesn't have the marketing stuff about the Olypmpic 12, but does have the specs in the bottom.

Tange Infinity - I have a Tange Infinity tubed bike and it is relatively light for a entry level/mid bike. Still thinking 25 lbs ish. Fork is Hi Ten, not Infinity.

Shimano Light action - indexed and works fine.
Sakae crank - not bad.

It would be a sports tourer not a racing bike.

I happily stand corrected. I had the light action one a panasonic and it works really nicely

My stock 1988 Olympic 12 was spec'd at 22.5 pounds. That's for a 54cm frame. Main tubes are 4130 CroMo. Stays and forks are hi-tensile steel.
