Hi all, seeking some help as I'm feeling a bit lost. I've come into possession of a bike and wondering if I should sell it, and if so, for how much. It is, I think, a 2000 or 2001 Cannondale R600 CAD3. It looks to have all the original parts (seat, tires, handlebars, derailleur etc) and they are in really good condition. The shifters connected to the cassette don't work, so those gears aren't changing. It is made in the USA, and a bright yellow colour - it looks great. A neighbour who is quite knowledgable about bikes thought a collector might be into it given the original bits. I haven't taken it to a proper mechanic yet to check if the gears are easy to fix. I have a bunch of pictures but can't post any, as I've just joined the forum for this post. Hopefully I'll be able to attach them to the thread soon? Located in Melbourne, Australia. Any help much appreciated!

Replacing the shifters is expensive. However, very often spraying the heck out of them with WD40 and working them will make them functional again. You can also have them rebuilt, at least here in the USA, for around $50 each. You would need someone to remove them and ship them in for service.

Around here that bike is desirable. I have heard the market in Australia is strong right now..

Thanks! That's helpful. The front gears were also not working and a bunch of silicone spray got them working, but it didn't work for the back ones.

That's not a ladies bike. Good for anyone 5'3" to 5'7".

The bike looks in very good shape so I'd give WD40 a good try before swapping the shifters. In 90% of the case it'll work with shifters that look in good condition like yours. It may require some patience however. Be generous on the WD40, make them work a lot, wait a day, restart, etc.

In my local area the bike could sell for ~400-500.
