My Flyte SRS-3... Porntastic

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

omgz I'm getting strange feeling all over lookin at the flyte bikes.......strange but good.

I'm seriously thinking of buying one of their clearance frames and fork and buying the parts for it over a period of about a month. I want to buy a commuter thats also cool looking........as well as functional.

Add another Flyte SRS3 owner to the list. This is going to be - get this - my first "modern" frame! I may even *gasp* use a carbon fork!

I couldn't resist picking one of these up after seeing so many good things about them. The build won't be till spring. The only parts I know I'll be using so far is my Ultegra/Open Pro wheels. Ordered with 42cm bars and the 110mm stem. Should be about right for a 56cm build. On the small side of what I'm sized for, but should be a good bike for quick rides in a group when I don't want to risk any damage to the Gazelle.

Now do I copy PhantomCow's Veloce on a Shimano cassette... or...

Welcome to the club and having the distinction of being an SRS-3 owner. Feel free to take any ideas you'd like from my build. https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ht=bike+number

Looking forward to seeing your results!

I just got my frame. Now I gotta save up my money to buy the components. I'm thinking full campy Veloce. Still deciding on the wheelset...

Once again, I'm reminded that I need to post some more pics of my bike. The one in this thread is SO "4 months ago."

I've changed the post to an Easton EC70 Zero, cages are now black Tacx Tao's, the stem is flipped and dropped, and I changed the cranks to the FSA Gossamer compact.

One of these days...

I've never really been a fan of the modern compact frames, but this flyte grew on me after seeing so many great build ups. Add in the great price ($148 shipped) and the fact I'll have a spare wheelset laying around after my gazelle rebuild - got a good match up for another frame purchase.

I'll either go with Veloce, or 105, or a mix of the two (oh the horror!) Really depends on what parts fall into place between now and April when I'll be doing this build and the Gazelle restoration. The Flyte's main purpose is to have a bike to ride to ride when I don't want to worry about something happening to the Gazelle.

I've been thinking about the SRS-3 too, but I'm not sure I like how sloped the top tube is, plus I am not sure they have a size that fits me. I rode a 62cm Specialized Allez, which was a little big I think, but looking at the numbers on the 60cm SRS-3 it seems like it might be too small. I'd definetly build it up with Centaur or Veloce though, straight fork, probably go with Open Pros. Lame, I know.

Those are the same sizes that I'm getting the 56 and either the 110 or 120mm stem. I'm 6'1/2" tall with a 33.5" cycling inseam. I saw where you won one for $99 just like me. How tall are you? And can you tell me your cycling inseam?

Not lame, sounds like a good build to me... actually sounds about what I'm looking at. I'd like to trade my Open Pro/Ultegras for an Open Pro / Centaur or something and get a full Veloce group. (Anyone reading this, and willing to wait till April... )

One of these days I'll have a bike worthy of posting pics of. Finally got a good camera that can do close-ups, now all I need is the bike.

masi61: I'm about 6' with a 34.5 inseam. So, with this, I'll have a 56, a 58, a 58.5 and a 60cm frame in my collection.

Your longer torso, you may be good with the slightly longer stem.

Hey Cuda, I checked out your website. Really nice. Are you just going to set the Flyte frame aside or are you going to build it up right away? Also, do you plan to buy the Flyte fork or another integrated fork. Flyte hasn't contacted me yet to let me know how expensive the fork would be. I may just but it separately off of ebay.

This and my Gazelle rebuild will both be doing late April / early May of next year. I'm graduating with my Master's degree and this little (now a wee bit bigger) project is my present to myself for finishing the degree. My father has promised me a sizable chunk of $$ when I finish. Once upon a time I was going to blow it all on buying a 67 Chevelle. Now, I'll "invest" some of it into repainting the Gazelle and putting a high end Campy group on it, and take some of the parts coming off the Gazelle to build up this Flyte.

I'm probably going to get a fork off Ebay when the time comes. Definately going to be a curved fork, maybe a Reynolds, or something more "stylish" if I have the extra cash. This will probably be a pretty budget build.
