Got another ride in and did my hillier route with the 2 more challenging hills. Tried to ride up faster and boy can they be killers but I will be back. Really like Highhold Rd and Old Country Rd in West Hills. good hard effort. Feels great wen you hit the top.

My goal for the month was to reach 100 miles and while it started out rather slow, I have started to be able to put in a bit more every day. I think it's safe to say that I'm going to reach my 100 mile goal for this month. Next month I'll shoot for more.

I am back in the saddle again after a very long leave of adsence, YEARS. Started back about two and a half weeks ago. First ride was around the block only to test everything works after I did a major service on an old Road Bike that was sitting upside down in the garager handing from ceiling by two hooks for many years.
Yes the bicycle bug bit me again after many years of my bicycle being in hybernation. Plus I need to see the bathroom scale read with me standing upon it under 200.0 pounds.
Complete five rides so far the first three being twenty miles, then a twenty fiver, and today a 30 miler, for a total month to date 115.0. Hope to get back too my old routing of 50 miles a day 4-5 days a week in the early am hours before it hit 110 degrees. Normal desert summer tempetures.

After speaking to another club member and a coworker, they told me that Avery rd has a nice incline and I should try it. Since it is near my new climbing loop, I decided to add it to this mornings ride. BOY was it tough. I think it is just under a 10% grade at about 136 ft of climbing. I just loved it!!! It was humid out and 67 - 70 deg. out this morning. Going up this hill in my 34-32 gear was still a challenge. I was huffing so much that I started hoping I wasn't going to have a heart attack. It was a challenging way to start a morning ride. From there, I went to Highhold Dr (which is less steep but still a challenge) and then to Old Country Rd(westbound ascent) for a lower climb but the longest overall. I ended with my typical Sunnyside Blvd climb along the highway and over Northern Pky. All in all it was 699 ft climbed. I find this a little odd that I did not gain much over the last time I did my climb loop since the Avery climb should have added another 136 ft give or take. I am relying on Strava and MapMyRide for the elevation change logging. I do not have a dedicated altimeter/GPS other than what the phone can do (iPhone).
Either way, adding in Avery made my morning ride 15.1 miles long which is more in the distance I want to do. It would be nice to add another 2-5 miles as an option in case I get up earlier or find my fitness improving and want a longer ride.
Hoping to do this again tomorrow if my legs recover. In any way, this ride will definitely be added to my list to do.

Heat in the desert is going to hit 115 this week. Was on the road by 0520, and home after another 25 miles. Hoping to have 250-300 miles on my bicycle this month. That seems doable. Plan on tackling some small hills & over passes next time out. Tomorrow plan is water walking in our community pool, some hot tub time, that I think I earned.
If you have not hit your personal goal this month, remember it is better to try, than sit on the couch thinking about it.
Your mind is your biggest enemy, as it tells your body it is quitting time, when your body is capable of doing more than you wand wants it too. Keep moving forward trying to reach your goal.

Continued to do a little rear derailleur adjustment. Just 1/4 turn anti-clockwise. Downshifting is getting better.
Also, I ordered a taillight from Performance Bikes, and I got the e-mail that it has arrived. That will help with rides with my wife, as we normally do those in the evening after it starts to cool down, but I've been a little worried lately, that the ride has been finishing a little too late. This should help us be seen.

Half way through the month and not even half my goal ridden, I'm gonna have to kick it up a notch. I'm shooting for 50 on Friday, 65 on Saturday and a rest day on Sunday.

118 mtd. Finding it a little hard to get the longer rides in so it would seem that a series of 15 mile rides will have to do.
