Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon Saddle Too Slippery

I have a carbon saddle that is awesomely light, but it is so smooth and slippery, my butt slides all over it. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you deal with it?
Thanks!
Alan

Don't neglect tilt adjustment...a slight forward tilt on a grumpy saddle might not cause you to slide forward, but on a slippery one, dead level may be more important.

You might take it to a cobbler or somewhere like that and get a single layer of thin leather glued on it.

I haven't had that be a problem. You might revisit your fit in terms of reach, saddle height and saddle tilt.

The saddle. You'll go through bibs/not bibs quicker, but it will take care of the sliding issue.

This seems to me like misplaced priorities. The number one function of the seat, handlebars and pedals are to support the engine of the bicycle and transmit power. Making choices that compromise the engine to save weight? Kinda like putting sloppy engine mounts in a Formula 1.

If you like the shape of the seat, take it to a cobbler and ask him to cover it with thin leather. (Finding that cobbler may be a challenge. It is a dying art.) Or do it yourself. A good leather outfit should be able to help.

I've been mulling over a new Selle SMP saddle, to replace my old Lite 209. Full Carbon Lite vs. Forma w/ Carbon rails. Same exact saddle except the Forma is +55 grams and has a leather cover, and costs $350 less. Seems like a no brainer.
