This has been on CL here for a few months now, and it cracks me up every time I see it. The trailer is made well, but if you read who it was for, that's when the humor happens. I can imagine some 80+ year old woman hanging onto those wooden handles with white knuckles going down a hill behind her son.

Don't know if the qualifies as wacky, but it leaves me scratching my head.

The link is an example from a single ostensibly private seller who for weeks has always had a dozen or more active ads for similar high end road bikes:

https://tallahassee.craigslist.org/b...994024473.html

I only noticed because all the pix are taken in the same public park.

This isn't that large a market, so it would be large used inventory even for a retailer. Doesn't seem like flipping at that level could be a viable enterprise. How and why did this seller acquire these bikes?

*SNIP*

Not wacky, but certainly peculiar. If I were to speculate, perhaps I might find that the seller loves bikes, has a great relationship with a couple LBS owners, buys the bikes that were traded in -OR- he buys the high-end bikes that the LBS customers want to trade in. He provides the cash, the LBS sells a new bike and keeps the profit, the customer gets a new bike, and the buyer gets a bike to sell on CL. Win all around, because the LBS isnt saddled with a bike that they will now have to sell. Instead they make profit from the new bike, and keep the customer happy. The LBS' distributor is happy because they sold another bike, further solidifying their relationship. I'm not saying this is what happens, but it might be plausible.

We have a similar CL situation within the New England area, in which the seller has perhaps a half-dozen high-end Serrotta's up for sale.

We have a similar guy who's always selling nice machines in a certain size range. He's retired and I figure he buys himself a newer ride occasionally and rotates his collection to keep the contents fresh. There are worse ideas.

I especially like the webpage's reversed photo with SUNSHINE script reversed and the bike's drive side on its non-drive side, er...whatever.

My vote is for insanity Maybe the new owner can rig something where whatever is living in that "nest" runs on the rear hub to power the bike.

Please permit me to rant for a moment here. I recently gave away a blue Raleigh almost identical to that one. My wife's niece needed a townie bike and is broke. I got the bike for free from a friend and she got it from me after I hunted it down. Many years ago she saw me on my Sports and wanted one for neighborhood riding, and within a week I had found a freakin' PERFECT blue Sports for her that cost me $24 goddam dollars, and that is what I sold it to her for. She parked it in her back yard for 20 years and then gave it back to me. It was in a snowdrift when I went to get it. I was emotionally invested in that bike so, yes, love is what it needs. Or obsession. Insanity is not far beyond but should not be necessary. I do think the ones in the ad are way overpriced. Mine was free for two of the three times I know it changed hands.

Rant over until the next thing that sets me off.

^ That might be the Bunz (or Buns) seat. There really was such a thing.

Elsewhere, this fork is not installed incorrectly so how much trouble is it to aim the fork in the right direction for photos? Any of the photos! However, I shudder to think that the seller might have spent time riding the bike like this. Coulda happened during those two years.

https://richmond.craigslist.org/bik/...995549265.html

Trek Neko Dual Sport Bicycle (Women's) - $450 (richmond, va)

bicycle frame material: aluminum
bicycle type: hybrid/comfort
condition: like new
frame size: 56 cm, 16 in, WSD
make / manufacturer: Trek
model name / number: Neko (Dual Sport Series)
wheel size: 25 in

This bike was bought two years ago for $750 and has only been ridden a handful of times since. The hybird feature allows for riding on both the streets/sidewalks, as well as mountain trails. There are three chainrings 8 gears. I'm selling the bike with the Trip 100 computer (purchased in addition for $75) already attached, which monitors distance and speed, along with other features. In addition, there is a flashlight, water bottle holder, and storage attachment already mounted to the bike (but easily removable). Except for some dust, the bike is in great condition and just needs an owner!

Hmm....What's worth the 4K? The bike or the trade secret?

vintage GregLemond - $4000 (Warrington)

Campagnolo equipped Lemond Tournolet Factory special and ridden for test only. This frame was manufactured in the late "80s in the same factory in Italy that Masi Nouva Strada was made. it is the same frame!
The seller is a former Vice President of Cicli Masi. if you buy the bike I will share a trade secret with you.
