I was kind of wondering about wheel rub too though the location doesn't make sense. I didn't expect anything when I picked out of a junk pile other than it looked like it was higher end bike and deserved to be looked over for possible parts. I'll mess with tearing it down, bath it, and see where it takes me while I continue the hunt!

Location makes a whole lotta sense.

When rear wheel not tight enough in dropouts pedaling effort brings tyre into left chainstay.

It is a classic case.

+1 it looks like the worst case of tire rub I've seen. I love the challenge of bringing these trashed premium frames back from the dead. I would have a frame builder braze a patch on that stay and find a replacement fork. But then, I have access to a great powdercoater that makes projects like this feasible.
