Gaining 4mph Without Fitness

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why, shoot! You can get a lot more than that, depending on the country.

Some professional racers do something I find comparable. They self-inflict sarcopenia upon their upper body muscles to save weight. Have you ever seen a picture of Lance Armstrong (ironic name.) I am not especially competitive but I live an amateur bodybuilding lifestyle of exercise and diet and I am not willing to make that kind of sacrifice for any athletic contest.

No, I have a low budget steel mountain bike with magnesium wheels. Later this week I will install a 1959 Cadillac bullet tail light with a flashing LED and a lithium battery.

Steel frame and magnesium wheels, later this week I will install a 1959 Cadillac bullet tail light behind the seat.

Beauty lies on the eye of the beholder:

My CF bikes are beautiful, to me and to many. My steel frame bikes are equally beautiful to me, and to many as well.

I'm particularly impressed by Genesis' approach to rear disc brake cable routing.

It is beautifully cleaned and painted. My favorite color is green, but the other colors are sublime when they are pure and un-muted.

I started with an aluminum angle bracket but it was not strong enough, it bent and eventually broke from the torsion of the breaking so I replaced it with steel and it has worked well ever since.
