Motobecane Grand Jubilee... Mid 70's?
I am new to the forum so pardon my inexperience. I negotiated this price down to $480 - is this a good deal?

no. i wouldn't pay more than $200 for an old 5 speed even if it is in nice shape. there is nothing 'top of the line' about it

It may be worth that to someone in the Classic & Vintage forum who absolutely loves old Motobecanes. If you are not a collector, and want an "around-town" bike, you should keep looking.

I bought my 1979 MB Grand Jubile new then for $330. Very classy looking bike; 23.5 lbs. Loved mine for 30 years, but not many on BF give it particularly high marks - and that reflects its overall value: sentimental only. Unless you're dying to have a vintage 5/2-speed, I'd spend the money elsewhere. At $480 for an old "10-speed", it better be collectible; this one isn't.

I like it a lot. Thats a great bike thats set up pretty nice. $480 is really high. But if you really like it, go for it. I see similiar bikes selling in the $200-250 range on Chicago CL. But the prices here are super cheap.

If it were in original condition, with the Jubilee derailleurs and TA cranks it might be worth almost that much to a collector. But as it sits now with hardly anything original left, it's just another old bike that's been modified over the years.

I paid less than that for mine in 1976, and it was a full on race bike with 10 speed.

1st ad has been deleted but the price was too high. I've got a 1978 GJ that I got for 80$ + shipping off eBay a few years back. GJs earlier than '76 were nicer as they were Reynolds 531 frames and Campy NR derailleurs as opposed to Vitus and early SunTour but still not worth that much.
I don' know the SF market but most would consider the 2nd bike to be over priced. The Gran Touring was a lower line model. Search for Motobecane Mirages for a similar model.
Having said that if the bike is straight and in good tune and you really enjoy riding it the $275 isn't that big of a deal.
