Wahoo Element Bolt data flow
Just trying to understand the flow as it relates to a Bolt my wife gave me for Christmas. I already use the Wahoo app for indoor activity (without the Bolt), but hopefully Sunday will be nice enough for my first outside ride with the Bolt.
I've set it up to recognize my HR and cadence via Bluetooth. Used my Samsung S10 to scan the code so I'm assuming it will connector to my phone.
A couple of questions; will the Bolt store data as I ride and then sync with my phone post-ride via the Wahoo app if I don't take my phone with me, or must the Wahoo app and my phone be connected, within range during the ride(s)?
I've been using Strava and my Wahoo app transfers data there at the conclusion of other activities. Just trying to visualize the process.

The Bolt will store the data and sync with your Wahoo phone app when in range.

Another question for Bolt users.
Set mine up, used it in a test run, saved and successfully uploaded the data. A question comes to mind, a couple actually. Searched endlessly for answers but little success. It seems you can't upload without a WiFi connection. Absent that, I suspect I could use my phone's mobile hotspot as an alternative. But, what if I'm out of cell range for a period of time.
Will the Bolt retain multiple, discrete rides for a period of time for delayed uploading?

The Bolt does save multiple rides if anyone is curious. I'm assuming with power and available memory of course.

I believe my Bolt will sync via Bluetooth to my phone since the data would be available at work when I rode in even though it doesn't connect to the office wifi. The phone then uploads the data. It connects in so many different ways that I don't think about it anymore. Every now and then I have to force it to sync because it wasn't connected when it tried it automatically. I've never lost a ride though, they are always on the Bolt if nowhere else.
And just to prove the point to myself I looked at RidewithGPS and today's ride was in there and I didn't do anything.

Bolt will upload a completed ride to the smartphone app, which then can send wherever you tell it via either a WiFi or cell data connection. Is how it can send to RWGPS from a remote ride with no WiFi.

Thanks for the info, but I was really trying to determine its limits for retaining ride data if one had 'no' connection for a period of time, measured in days.

OK, so here is some hard data. I'm looking at my bolt, going back in time on the history, and I'm at Oct 25th, 2019 and about 25 rides back. It is winter after all and I don't turn on my Bolt when I ride indoors. So basically the answer is a very long time and a lot of rides and some of these rides were very long, 5+ hours, until it runs out of memory I suppose. It has held rides for many months, never mind days.

Unless you plan on being away from a WiFi or cellular connection for months on end, I wouldn't worry about it. I've had well over a months worth of daily, 40+ mile rides stored in my Bolt before deleting them.

Thats a good question for the Wahoo forum. Company reps do pay attention.
