our horse was moved a couple days ago because one of the major rivers flooded the property(its 4-8' under water right now, depending on the building).
he was moved 20mi south of the city and I made the trek yesterday with my wife and kids(they ride) to see him and quickly knew right where we were as we took gravel roads that i ride.
it was shocking to drive on the mud/gravel/sandy mix since its nothing like what I usually encounter on those roads.
the flooding from all the snowmelt, ice floes, and rain storms has made for some wildly quick flooding here too.
zoomed in pic of one of the barns which is flooded by the raccoon river and under about 4' of water. This is in the city right near downtown.

Stay safe mi amigo, our news is to obsessed with our own water problems to even think about the other side of Mighty Mo to cover it...and once the snow/ice out west thaws and melts another round will come.

Looking west towards Mt Baker, that lies in WA state (I'm in BC, CAN). This is on the Matsqui Prairie that has a trail and dike system.
Looking east towards Glen Valley and Ft. Langley further afield. This is a very popular road riding area with a trail that follows the Fraser River.
The area I wanted to explore. This is a stretch of steep gravel road that joins the two areas but was closed decades ago due to instability and is now part of the Trans Canada Trail.
Looking west towards Mt Baker, that lies in WA state (I'm in BC, CAN). This is on the Matsqui Prairie that has a trail and dike system.

what is that trunk bag? Looks like a souped up carradice that's made of waterproof matetial.

It's a PVC bag, part of the Carradice carradry line. I have it and two matching front panniers for light touring. This bag holds about 12L and another, the SQR holds about 18L (has two additional side pockets).
I like it. Simple, waterproof and durable. Like a Orlieb but cheaper.

First real dirt ride on new bike. The 650b thunder burt sticks to the dirt like glue. The dropper is so awesome on descents too. Definitely don't knock it till you try it.

Lauf had a demo day in my city. Got to take out a True Grit for a pretty long ride. I was very impressed by the frame, not so much by the fork. The fork is great in micro bumps but damping the hard hits is not happening. My Fox AX is 90% of the way there in the micro bumps with proper tuning (pills, fast rebound setting) and on the hard stuff it just crushes it. The one con I found on the frame is that it only has internal routing for rear shifter and brake hose. So you get 2 entry points on the left side of the downtube but zero entry points on the right side so you cannot run a dropper seatpost. Also the geometry is MTB like with long reach so you have a long top tube with a short stem.
Frame has a lot of clearance and can easily clear 700x45s with a lot of room left for mud.

almost stopped this morning to take a picture on my commute when the road i was riding has been so torn up with construction it was like riding on a gravel road haha

Tax us to F*&k for having a car and spend 1/3rd of it maintaining the roads ... any other company set up and did the same ... charging for something they don't deliver they'd close them down for fraud!!
Funniest was a facebook post that went round a couple of days ago with 2 pictures ... Roman road built 2000 years ago .. immaculate ...... council road built 2 years ago .... you can guess what it looked like and I wouldn't want to take my 29er down there!!
I'll see if I can post some gravel ride pics soon because the unmaintained roads over here are in a far better state than the main roads
