Baby Seat Question

My wife and I bought iNeed Momentum bikes two years ago and had a blast riding them around. Fast forward to now, we have a 1 year old baby and want to get back into riding. My wife went to the bike shop that sold us the bikes looking for a baby seat and they told here our bikes are not compatible with a baby seat of any sort. Does that sound right? I would think the rack welded into the frame on the back of the bike provides the perfect spot to mount a baby seat.

Thanks for any help.

If the rack hasn't been designed or tested by the manufacturer to mount a baby seat, it's unlikely that the bike shop or manufacturer will vouch that it's safe to do so. It's notable that the rack doesn't have any associated weight rating. Also, from the pictures it looks like the rack slopes slightly, which wouldn't be ideal. But if you have an REI nearby, you might go try out: https://www.rei.com/product/123589/t...hild-bike-seat. Also, as suggested above, you might want to look for a front-mounted seat like the ibert, Bobike Mini, Yepp Mini, or Thule Mini RideAlong.

The rack has written on it '25kg' max so I would think it is plenty strong for a baby and a seat.

Why not contact Giant and ask them?

I used the wee ride kangaroo child seat for my daughter from 1 to 3 years. It is a front mount but unlike the ibert the seat is mounted to the frame instead of the stem. We rode 3 to 4 times a week for those 2 years and had a blast. I think it would work well on your giant bike.

Why don't you consider a baby stroller? My son is almost a year (11 months), and I thought of a baby seat first. Then I decided to look for the options, and saw those trailers which appeared safer to me. So at the moment that's something I consider, man.

My LBS won't sell bolt-on baby seats, or as one of the guys calls them, "kid catapults." Look into a trailer-- or even better a convertible trailer, the kind that has a wheel that swivels out and turns it into a stroller. We got years and years of use out of our trailer, passed it on to a few nieces and nephews, and it made its way back home after more than a decade of use, with the fabric basically disintegrating from the sun. I replaced the fabric with wood and built a cargo trailer out of it. It hauls Girl Scout Cookies around the neighborhood every year.
