I'm getting new wheels with my tax refund. Can I do any better than these?

Tubulars are indeed out of the question. In fact, unless it's tubeless compatible it's out of the question.

For sure the Boyds will be a good buy they are awesome I have a pair and so do some of my riding buddys , they they the 50's and 44's in the Boyds and they say they are great . I have the Boyd altamonts and still smooth true stiff LIGHT, did I mention lightness 1500 grams for the aluminum pair that's pretty light for the money. Go with the boyds , and they have a good warranty for them, I've herd BOYD stands behind their wheels.

Well, I owned a set of Boyd wheels for almost three years so my review is a real one. I didn't leave a review as soon as I got the wheels, this is a review after thousands of miles. I had a set of the alloy wheels, they were strong, stayed true, and held up well. I would absolutely buy from them again as I was also 100% happy with the customer service I got from both Boyd and his wife Nicole.
I hope this helps.

Just in case you missed it. One of the guys from November (Dave) is a member here and has posted in threads pertaining to their products. For me that tells me everything I need to know about their customer service. That brand hasn't yet been within my budget but should they ever,,,,they are already ahead to the pack. Hope the OP can see this as a positive addition to his thread, good luck with whatever you decide.

Ok, just talked to locals about depth. They seem to think 60 is a real pain in the butt with the winds we get around here.

I have a set of Williams 38 carbon clinchers. Worth a look. I have a set of Boyd alloy and a set of November Nimbus Ti and both are great wheels. I do like the White Industries T11 hubs better.as far as the carbon hoops go I know each has invested in their design and these are not open mold. I would go with the November because I really think it's a better wheel, but not by much. I really like my Williams. They have been very reliable, true and just a blast to ride. If you go with Boyd it won't be a bad choice. Really surprised at that Altamont rim but sounds like maybe the first run and his rims are a different design now.

Now I'm wondering if the novembers are too deep. I agree those hubs are likely better.

I ride in the wind all the time. My first ride on the Rails were in the wind, near the National Wind Lab, which is on the old Morgul course. Reading through the November blogs during the development of those rims, they were talking about how docile they were in some pretty nasty gusts. It was hard for me to believe until I experienced it firsthand. They were/are pretty amazing, to be honest. Don't get me wrong, the wind was felt, but nothing like my Assaults, and even nothing like I felt with Kinlin 300's. Mike and Dave are a treat to deal with, and they should be proud of the company, and following they have developed.
Of course, Boyd Wheels posts here, and the time they devote to their company and also here, is also admirable, and commendable. I have no doubt their product is quality, I just have no experience with their stuff. I'm sure the same can be said about Williams wheels.

Yup, the RAILs are excellent in windy conditions. All the nonsense about crosswinds is way overblown here...

Ok, a new contender is a used set of ENVE 3.4s (from a local friend). How do they compare to the boyd and november wheels?

I've ridden November Rail 52's, and I recently got a set of the Boyd 2016 60mm clinchers. I really like the Boyds. They're a little deeper, and a little wider than the Rails. I was also looking to go tubeless (the Rails I had were from before they updated to be tubeless ready). The braking performance also seems good on the Boyds, though a bit noisier. What surprised me is that the Boyds seem to handle better in the wind, not something I was expecting. You still feel the crosswinds, but there's less of that feeling of wheels getting "grabbed" by the wind. Whether 60mm is too deep for the winds in your area is hard to say, rider weight and even bike fit will also be factors.

what is this place coming to?
44 posts, and not one bashing the OP for the poor financial planning in getting a tax refund.

Update: I'm 99.99% sure I'm going with the Enve 3.4 my friend is selling. I'm sorta glad those came up, because otherwise it's almost impossible to decide between the boyd and november options.

Lol. My wife quit teaching last year, and I didn't adjust my withholding to match. So we way overpaid. We're also moving, and we have cleared out the house donating things to goodwill. Yeah, we had a good tax year

Just wanted to say those wider rims are great but make sure they will work with you intended tire. I have 25mm Conti 4 seasons that measure almost 28 with my November Nimbus Ti's. This combo is at the limits on my Felt and no good on the Tarmac.

Do you really need to spend 1k for wheels. I have some from Performance Bike at 349.00 plus whatever sale you can find. Easton EA70 LTD, the seem to spin forever. I would imagine those over 1k must be pure awesome.
