Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well, today, you're going to top out 65° warmer than we will.

At least I see highs above 20° in the 7-day forecast - it's been a while.

Today is one of those sunshiny winter days, with beautiful, clear blue skies, that tries to sucker you in to stepping outside... kind of like that one subway car that's empty of passengers, but full of hobostank, during rush hour. No - I will not be fooled.

Just put on a balaclava. You'll be fine.

The discussion got a little into fasting. On one hand it's good for the GI to rest, but on the other, if you go too long without feeding the gut bacteria, they start eating the mucus. So, it's complicated.

Not in the #QuasiNorth. The highs will be below normal all week. Also, no sun.

Oooo! I love that stuff! Especially when they make it with pistachios, instead of walnuts.

Roads all have a shiny sheen on them. And it’s still below freezing. I played it safe and did an hour of fake miles.

I am ready for spring.

Funny you should mention that, because I was going through all the wheels I have for it when finally built up, and the one original wheel I have - the front - is the one that doesn't spin smoothly. So I looked online and found out how to take it apart. I can't see any problem with the cones, but now, in the absence of a cone wrench, I can't put it back together properly.

In case I hadn't mentioned it here, I have 4 non-matching wheels for it. I just need to match ONE of them.
Fronts:
RX100 hub/Mavic 195 rim
105 hub/Mavic MA2 rim

Rears:
105 hub/192 rim
Ultegra hub/MA3 rim.

Probably the best match visually would be the RX100 front and the Ultegra rear, but the RX100 hub has crunchy bearings.

If it doesn't spin smoothly it could be that it was too tight or just dry. Sometimes the flaw in the cones is hard to see. You should be able to find cone wrenches pretty cheap, I think. If not, you could grind down a regular open end wrench of whatever size you need.

One of the cones was pitted in my Ultegra 6600 rear hub and finding a cone was tough until my LBS guy got a cone assortment from a shop he bought inventory from.

While killing a little time this morning, I decided to set up a (non-studded) gravel tire on the front Assault wheel (the rear wheel currently has the trainer tire on it). I really should sell the Assaults, I won't get much use out of them, but I'm thinking about keeping them around to use on the Haanjo and to have them as spares for the Cervelo. Anyway, yeah - I mounted a gravel tire and... too much unbroken black makes the mid-depth rims and 38mm tires look too chunky (the censor doesn't like my alternative spelling ). Schwalbe does have these tires available in a tan wall, now, though...

Wheels Manufacturing sells cones, bearings and axles for stuff going way back, but from their website I gather they prefer to deal with LBS's rather than individuals - they make a big point of telling you to work with your LBS to make sure you order the right bits because they're not returnable. I've seen that sort of thing from watch parts houses, too. I think both have had to deal with hobbyists who don't really know what they're doing, so they don't really know what to ask for - "Hi! I have an Elgin watch that I think was made in the 50s? Yeah, and I think it needs this thingy that winds it. Do you have one of those?"

I have had good luck finding bearing bits at randombikeparts.com. Cone wrenches are a must for the C&V crowd.

Had a nice 9am group zwift with the goons. And then a 2 hour nap. Had to take a muscle relaxer for the last couple days for my back spasms. Makes me sleepy.
But even with that junk in my system I still managed 260 watts average.
looked at a house yesterday. Nice but too small, some weird stuff with the layout too.
I may have to up my sqr footage to 1200. 1000 seemed awfully small. All depends on what I can get for this place.
Agents coming by next weekend, to give me her opinion.
