stay on bike lane. turn right after intersection. stop on MUP even if green and wait for group (red arrow)
push walk/ride button. wait for green and cross second perp street (green arrow)

that cutting from the left turning lane to slow and get off to the right where a car can't get causes to risk points (both drivers fault but cyclist is dead).

A. cyclist assumes one bike as they can only see one in turning lane, thus whips around to cut in front of cyclist (this is what we saw in video)
B. car approaching fast at a yellow turn arrow and cyclist is very slow in left turning lane to get off at the right corner to mount the mup (and it's narrow and not flat) ... this would be even more dangerous.

my solution solves these and introduces the riders to the MUP light operation system, which is useful.

pats cyccommute on head again ... good job ... you're almost there ... next time ... woof woof

The logic of hours spent analyzing a videotape of an illogical incident that happened to somebody else for the purpose of winning an argument on an internet discussion forum? I like a good challenge as much as the next guy, but “hooboy”. KOM awarded.

there are (almost) no stop signs in the UK, everything is a merge and you fail your test for slowing down ... never impede the cadence of traffic ... alway suse indicator.

Yeah it’s sort of like that, just say like a cowboy would say “yee hah”, upward inflection on the “who” and a softer, lower “boy”, sort of swallowed. The Amish don’t have a different word for it and they say it the same way.

I used to live near a street called "Hoes Lane".

Even better, there was still an older street nearby that it replaced, still called "Old Hoes Lane"

finally a commuting thread that's moving.

yeah, that double parked car seems dangerous, although I did get what I wanted as the cyclist slowed appropriately, like I would expect.

I was disappointed, very light on the Schegerfrâggen.

I’d have gone between the double parked car and the one at the curb. Full speed. Covered in honey.

In an ideal world you'd expect this from your idea

Left 1 by Stuart Black, on Flickr

However, that requires a high degree of coordination from the cyclists and, in my experience, this is what would happen with 8 bikes if you tried it.

Hell, that would happen with 3 bikes. With 8 at least 6 of them are going to be pointing in the wrong direction. Your idea won't work and is less safe then what they did in the video.

Turning from the left lane onto the bike path isn't optimal as I've stated before. However, the car has to wait for the traffic in front of it as it would for a wide turning truck. If the truck had to slow or stop or back up, the car driver couldn't expect to go around the truck. The same applies for cyclists. The motorist must yield to traffic in front of it, no matter what that traffic is doing.

I think you mean motorist. But that doesn't matter. The motorist in this situation was well aware of the number of bicycles in front of them. They just thought they could bully the cyclists by going around them. He got caught doing a dick move and was completely and totally wrong.

Again, motorist aren't allow to take the right-of-way from vehicles in front of them. The motorist would be in the wrong and it would be their fault.

I'm not sure what "MUP light operation system" you are talking about. There doesn't appear to be a separate system for cyclists in this video. Those are rare in the US and, frankly, mostly unnecessary. Follow the signals and ride like a vehicle. That's the way to "educate" drivers on how to behave around cyclists. Your solution just reinforces their ideas that bicycles have no right to the road.

Nor are there stop signs on the road the cyclist was riding on in the flat video...at least not for the cyclist. There are also no laws that I know of that say you have to slow at each intersection. So why is the guy in the video a jerk who deserves a flat while the riders in your UK video "good cyclists". Under your rules, they should be slowing for the traffic merging onto the road way. Or, at least, breaking cadence and preparing to stop...just in case.

Could also be said that forums are final refuge for people who don’t win enough arguments IRL.

Edit: I like forums, though. I always feel like the dumbest person in the room and I’m no good at arguing. But I still like ‘em.
