Parts for Restoring 1992 Trek 930
I'm trying to restore a Trek 930 as my main commuter bike. I bought it from a yard sale for 50 bucks. Following are some things I need to get it to running condition, and I was hoping to get some suggestions.
1. The original head set (aheadset brand) seems to be in bad condition. What is a good replacement headset, and what size would fit this bike?
2. I was hoping to convert it into a sealed bottom bracket. Any suggestions on the parts I could use?
3. The original breaks and shifters are missing. Any suggestions for a set of thumb shifters I can use?

1. 1 and 1/8" is your stem size. You can research headsets from this.
2. A cartridge or sealed? what you have is probably sealed. You'll likely need a 73 cartridge body, but you'll need to measure the spindle you have. It is probably a 122.5 or 127.
3. Deore XT M732 Thumb shifters (check eBay). If you want a modern shifter / brake lever, look at the Shimano EF500 or EF51, but make sure you get the cantilever version (if that is the type of brake you are running). They have a V-Brake only version of these shifters, do not get those.

Thanks. Yes, I was hoping to put a cartridge one
Quick follow up. The bike has an Exage 500LX M500 crank set. I was able to remove everything except the fixed cup. Would the Partk Tool HCW-4 tool fit ?

Are the brakes missing? Or the brake levers?
What exactly is "bad" about the headset? Unless it's been outside a lot, and/or hammered on hard without maintenance of the grease, it may just need to be repacked.

Sheldon Brown explains how to make a tool for removing fixed cups. Sometimes they can be a real mother to break loose, it may be worth paying a shop a few dollars to remove it.

If the cups and spindle are in good shape, there is no need to replace the bottom bracket. Most of the old school triples I've worked on take a 127 mm bottom bracket as the new sealed units are symmetrical. Shimano does not make a 127 mm 73 mm bottom bracket. Measure it but I do believe @katsup is right and you need a 73 mm BB and a 1 and 1/8 headset (certainly that is true for my '92 Trek 950).
Although Shimano does not make a 127 73 mm BB, sunlite does and you can find one on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/p/Sunlite-Botto...50984534&rt=nc Measure the old spindle first but remember you are going from an asymmetrical to a symmetrical BB spindle.
If you don't mind friction shifters, sunrace makes cheap very decent thumbies.

It's hit or miss finding 7 speed used thumbies. Personally I'd avoid the push push shifters. I don't like them but YMMV.

Tektro CR 270s are excellent replacement cantilevers. You should be able to find decent used cantilevers for less $.
