I purchased a backer position in the device I originally wanted but missed, the Shareroller. It's a 4.5lb friction drive (including batteries) that pops on and off easily without leaving a hub or other parts on the bike. For my needs, it is perfect and I trust Jeff, the owner. When I missed out on ordering one, I moved on and found Urbanext and went with it as second choice. In frustration, I went back and was reading the comments from the Shareroller backers (they've been waiting a looooong time because he's incorporating the newer model into it) and one guy was really pissed off. So i found him on facebook and offered to buy him out - he agreed - and Jeff facilitated it so neither of us got screwed over in the transfer of the funds.
It's about twice what the Urbanext would have cost me, and I'm probably going to be waiting until early next year for it, but it is exactly what I want and need. It literally fits in my sling bag when I am not using it and pops on the bike in 5 seconds to use. I can put up with the noise of the friction motor because the times I use it will be in the city anyway.
And - I'm going to pop it on my soon-to-be-ordered Bike Friday Pakit (16" folding bike under 18 lbs). Yay!!! An e-bike under 23 lbs total.

Funny story on that... yeah the wheel is in good condition buuuuuuuuttttt I noticed the packaging had old shipping labels and return to sender written on it. I looked the guy up to try and ask him why he returned it.. turns out he died. Someone literally had to die for me to get one of my two wheels. Assuming they send me the other, the only complaint I have is that the deceased man ordered a black rim, not regular aluminum. I really like the sound of your first choice btw, I am officially wishing I'd gone with Sondors myself.

A few years down the road you can get your Sondors =).

My wheel arrived Oct 9th. It took me a few days to unpack and install wheel.
It was very well packaged.
I have done 1 test ride. I ordered shorter handgrips for the hybrid bike that I'm using this on, so that I can fit the throttle, gearshift, and brake lever all on the handlebars.
The throttle control seems like it's on/off. I installed the iMortor app on my phone and it detected the wheel and can detect speed and battery. I have no idea what the 1, 2, 3 choices in the app do - they seem to have no effect.

I've had mine for about a month and used it about 10 times. It fit pretty well on a cheap Fuji hybrid after I filed a tab down that interfered with the battery. It seems pretty well made and the battery fit snugly and isn't too hard to remove although it's a little difficult to pull out. I saw stories of loose spokes so I checked them all.
It's not real powerful but will take me up most hills that are not too challenging. It's the 350W and I thought it had PAS but damned if I can figure out how to activate it. However, you get used to using the throttle only when you need it. I'm not sure about range but I think a judicious use of the throttle would get at least 15 miles and maybe 20 if you use the lower levels. The app is a POS and I don't trust the speed or the % battery. You don't need it after setting the level of assist. I just put it on 3 (highest) and let it go.
I've got about $750 in the bike and it would be fine for a short commute (I'm retired so I don't care) or trips to the store or around the neighborhood. I've got a Trek with the mid-drive Bosch system and this is not even close in power or quality but it's also $2,500 less.

Yeah but I consider that throttle control not pedal assist. If you quit pedaling on a PAS bike you get no assist. Not so on the Urbanext.

My shorter handlebar grips arrived (with my bar-ends). The throttle will not fit on a bar-end - bar-end diameter is just a bit too large. I fit the shorter grip, throttle, shifter, and brake lever stuff all onto the handlebar, and I can reach everything.
Bar extenders (like the one shipped with my wheel, and the space bar) don't work well on the handlebars that came with this hybrid. The bars are the 31.8 mm in the center, and the way that they taper to 25.4 mm at the ends makes it difficult to mount a handlebar extender where I would need it. It's easier to mount things near the center of handlebars, before the tapering starts.
I rode a 15 mile test today. I limited my use of the motor, and the blue LEDs on the battery had 1 segment remaining when I got home. I got to experience the 'cruise control' feature a few times. The phone app read 0mph and full battery the entire time.
I would love to be invited to the slack channel for urban-x discussions.

Access to the slack
Hi everyone.
I just saw this thread while looking online for the Urbanextrakt wheel.
I have one with pedal assist only and I don't seem to make it work... Even though the app recognise my wheel once the button to turn it on is pushed... But the boost button...
Well. I read that there was a slack and I would love to have an invite to it, as maybe someone as the trick and share it on the slack.
Could you please post a new invite?
Thanks and regards!
Flo

Post or DM me your email and I will send you a slack invite. With the pedal assist mode you have to get up to a set speed before the motor kicks in, 5mph I believe. The boost button is not going to do anything.

Battery
I'm looking to get a 2nd battery, but I'm concerned about losing my money. This company has been very shady from the get go, with very mixed results on orders. The only link I've seen for getting on is not actually a "company" site, but a personal Paypal site, for one of the owners...I believe. Anyone gotten a battery recently...and if so, from where?

Hi guys, little help would be appreciated.
So I got the UrbanX or the UrbaNext 700c wheel a year back. Took awhile to get it delivered. Still yet havnt made use of it, first it wouldn't fit my bike with the battery in place due to front shocks. NOW FINALLY EXCITED for summer I got a new bike which it fits but the connectors from the motor hub to the throttle are both female & throttle connector is also slightly larger. How else can I make this work. I don't even know what connector this is other than it being Higo but still they both have different sizes. I feel like I was ripped off & made fool of at the same time but I also want to make this work. Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
