1974 Motobecane Grand Touring, taken when I was out on a Saturday ride in 107 degree temps. Even the ground had been on fire recently...

A few modifications to the '65 Dilecta Le Blanc touring bike over the last few months. Moved the strap on bottle cage to the down tube from the seat tube to allow mounting a good old frame pump. Found a chrome rail broken in Brooks B17Narrow and will break in the new one on another bike. A decent sized cotton duck bag has been added to carry my "stuff". For comfort, I have added some Cane Creek hoods on the Mafac levers and re-wrapped the bars with some thicker very comfortable tape. Found a used pair of Shimano SPD M324 pedal at the LBS that look a little like vintage pedals and allow me to wear the same shoes as some of my other bikes. This bike is quickly winning favor in the fleet.

My 1984 Trek 620 running 42x16 FG, fenders, and dynamo lighting, no racks. I really like this setup. Fast, comfortable, stable, quiet.

Built this one last year, mainly to have an excuse for extensive field testing.

Rolling Out a Couple More
Here are my latest builds, starting with a mid-`80s Specialized Sequoia 650b Conversion:
Configured this way it is a useful commuter and grocery getter. I have a nice pair of waxed-canvas panniers for when I take it on a "real" tour.
I went with a wide swept-back handlebar because I need an upright riding position these days. My right shoulder blade won't tolerate much weight on it without a lot of nagging pain.
Next is an early `70s Raleigh/Carlton Super Course that I am building up for the Lake Pepin 3-Speed Tour:
I went all-out on this build. Stripped everything including the paint off the frameset, chucked all the ironworks and replaced with quality light alloy components.
That is a carefully rubbed-and-polished, rattle can Rust-Oleum paint job.
Those are compound-curve bamboo fenders from Woody's. The Carradice Barley bag carries everything I need for a light day-tour situation.
Since these photos were taken, I added a Carradice Bagman Sport support to keep the saddlebag off the rear fender. The bike rides beautifully, as long as you don't ask it to climb too steep a hill. There was one section yesterday where I had to get off and walk - it's not that I couldn't muster the torque to turn the crank, but the Sturmey-Archer hub felt too delicate to punish like that. Bay City Hill on the Lake Pepin Tour will be rideable on this bike.

I picked up this early '90s Novara Randonee recently with the intention of fixing it up for my wife but it was too big for her so I sold it. It was a mess when I got it. It was 'fixed up' by someone that had no clue what they were doing. I gave it a complete overhaul before I sold it. I had a total of $45 into it including the purchase price.

Some great, great bikes in this thread. Once of these days in the future, perhaps not in a galaxy too far away, I'll be able to add my own contribution to it.

Insidious - and I'll wager the Dawes can make the touring run in less than 5 parsecs to boot! I think T-Mar would be the one to ask about it's "date-age"

This is posted elsewhere in C&V,
but seems appropriate to put pics up here as well. My 1985 Trek 720 that I acquired less than three weeks ago. Took it on its first ever tour (yes, first loaded tour in 33 years for one of the best touring bikes ever made) a week ago, just got it cleaned up this morning.

Go Ride
Miyata 1000 GT 1984
1984 Miyata 1000
I found this pristine 1984 Miyata 1000 this past spring but I’ve been unable to ride it until now due to a shattered tibia & fibula.
Most of the components are original other than the saddle & seatpost which I replaced with a Dura Ace post and Brooks Ti Special B-17. Other enhancements are a Cinelli stem, Nitto Noodle handlebar, Crane Creek brake levers and a 2000 Ultegra rear derailleur replacing a Suntour 1000 which was cheaply made and ugly.

'83 Voyageur. I am experimenting with touring bikes out of interest in fenders and wide tires--if any of you enjoy riding yours primarily for something other than loaded touring, I would be very interested to hear your thoughts.
This bike and my '83 Super Sport both ride wonderfully. Frames are beautiful--nicer than my '88 Voyageur. The only flaw with these Panasonic models seems to be that the seat lug ears deform a bit under the clamp bolt. Has anyone else noticed that?

Please post some more details and pictures of your bike. Examples of this era of Pro Tour, with the brazed-on centerpulls and without the chromed lugs, seem to be slim. I cherish my heavily modified silver example from 1977, use it in a practical way, though I don't ride it so much these days.

Just completed a rebuild of a 1987 Nishiki Cresta GT that I acquired from forum member @The Thin Man in March.
As found

After rebuild: new cockpit, brake levers, BB, new chain rings, Pedals, and an upgrade to a 6 speed FW , replaced the consumables -otherwise stock . I did add the water-bottle cages, rack and bell.

You got rid of the confetti tape!?! You should be ashamed of yourself!!
Bang up job, Ryan! Watching the transformation has been a true joy.

Yes I hang my head in shame at turning my back on late 80s style. I also swapped out the worlds shortest stem, the narrow-ish bars and the to small for my paws stock brake levers. Loving the way this bike rides
