Smile and wave.

This is toward the "worst" end of the spectrum of what can happen when you get involved in someone else's road rage. It's a standard bell curve (says I) and actual violence, while really bad, is kind of rare. The more common way it ends is that somebody pulls a dick move, you tell them off or whatever, and then you spend the rest of your ride being upset instead of having fun. It pretty much never ends well, and it's best to just avoid the trap whenever possible. But that isn't easy.

It looks like they were both wrong. The cyclist should not have hit the driver and the driver sure as hell should not have tried to kill the cyclist. Nobody looks good here.

I agree, though the actions of the driver are quite a bit worse!

The moral is, if you're going to get in a fight with a driver, get him out of the car first and hurt him badly enough that he won't be driving after you.

Or, uh, just don't get in fights with people.

True, but punching someone in the face and trying to kill someone by hitting them with a car are definitely not equally bad.

One count of assault, one count of attempted murder. Two idiots.

Assault vs. vehicular assault. Neither one is innocent.

Except the article didn't say the driver tried to kill the cyclist. If you want to really kill someone with your car, it's pretty easy

i dont see anything wrong with punching the driver in the face. id do the same and try to knock the driver out or do anything to prevent him from fleeing then call the cops to get this on record. if the driver was to drive against a cop, he'd open fire because that is attempted murder.

who knew what happened prior to the hit. either way, what kind of threat could a cyclist have to the driver?

No, not equally bad. It is just stupidity all around.

Where does it say the cyclist punched the driver in self-defense? I don't see any evidence to reach that conclusion.

you're right. i read a different article about the same incident and it didnt specify that the cyclist punched the driver in the face prior to getting pinned.

if the cyclists exhibited road rage first and lashed out he's at fault. while it sux to hear about a fellow cyclist that was on teh wrong end of a car it sure ~seems~ like he brought some of this on himself. kinda like bringin a knife to a gunfight. now, the fact that car dude retaliated is gonna doom him if he's caught, but bike guy should be charged with assault as well. as said above, plenty of stooopid to go around on this one.
