I don't know what British valves are like, now, but your photo shows a typical British one from my days, around the 50s, 60s and later. Bikes came with a tire pump that had a flexible hose inside the handle. That hose fitted that valve. There's one on eBay.

It looks like a Woods or Dunlop valve. The kind I am familiar with uses a small length of rubber tube over the small part (left on the photo) of the valve core. The air from the pump comes out of the side hole and pushes the rubber away to let the air into the tire. The air pressure then pushes the rubber against the hole which keeps the air from escaping. A Presta chuck should fit; one of my pumps came with a Woods to Schrader adapter but I have never needed it.

I just updated my response. There's a hose on eBay. Pumps are available, too. But as dabac said, a Presta nozzle will work.

The old ones that used a rubber sleeve for the actual valve mechanism weren't much fun. Lots of resistance on inflation, and the sleeve tended to fail quite regularly.
The kind you have, which is either a ball valve or a kind of rubber stopper, is quite decent. Easy to use if you like to add sealant to your tubes.

Not a quibble, the OP asked what kind of valve it is. There are 2 common names for it. I supplied them, Schwalbe is a German company. You wouldn't want to say stuff like that in the Netherlands
In fact, Woods, or Dunlap valves are sometimes known as English valves, Dutch never comes into the picture
