Wow... super cool find! That frame predates me by 11 years I grew-up on Schwinn road bikes and always lusted after the Paramounts... I didn't know that they had been around for so long. I'm excited to see where this build goes. I suppose a complete repaint is out of the question due to the "decals" actually being paint.
Paramount's have been since the 30's.

Some parts arrived today from jeirvine and the interim build slowly continues with bits and bobs I had around the house. I am not sure about the cinelli unicanitor as it is not in the best of shape but I will try it out. I was initially thinking of the B17 special with copper rivets or the brooks pro with the large rivets. The rims are also giving me pause. I may build them up with something else, perhaps a set of GP4s.
Eventually I would like the proper rear derailleur as a Gran Sport but here I am. Also thinking about the brake pads as I am not sure about replacement inserts for Universal Mod 61 brakes or if I should just get some modern replacements with built in adjustability. I had some issues with the head tube inner diameter and the crown race from the old stronglight headset so I ended up installing a new record headset that I had stashed away. I removed the ugly logo on the locknut.

So this one stalled a bit due to discovering that the precious owner drilled out both the front and both rear brake holes to accommodate recessed brakes. Including the one that doesnt have a recessed nut.
gugie came to the rescue with a brake bolt sleeve and some careful drilling of the rearmost brake hole to accommodate the sleeve we have this.
Unfortunately while gingerly tightening the bolt down the bridge did dimple inwards 1mm or so before coming to a rest. The brake isnt moving and I would call it a success. Realistically if this doesnt work I'm not that concerned about the dimpled bridge because the proper repair would be to braze in a new bridge. Plus, this way the sleeve flange has a bit more material to push against so maybe not the worst thing.
I stole a nylon washer from my kids seat clamp quick release for the front.
So, there we have it. The bike has hopefully two functional brakes now. I am optimistic they will hold up and if not it will require more invasive repairs. This also means all I am missing are some brake hoods and maybe some nicer bar tape to complete the bike.

The sales literature claims those bikes weigh (on average) 26 pounds. That's what's claimed for some of the fillet brazed models as well. Interesting how that was considered 'super lite-weight' at the time.

That is good to know. I will weigh it once it is all built up but with these tubulars I could see maybe 24lbs.

My spring project has stalled a bit but I should have everything I need now. Some other life things got in the way a bit.

Some brake selection issues cropped up but I believe I have resolved my quandary. A set of Nuovo Record calipers with a drop bolt for the rear. I have a set of Kool Stop pad inserts and some new rubber washers for the brake adjustment. I am building it up as best I can but most of the parts are from the 70s.
Lets call it a standard Paramount the owner upgraded with top shelf components during his 10 year stint as a serious cyclist.

I can confirm the rubber Danco #31 o-ring part 96745, 9/16" OD x 5/16" ID x 1/8" fits the campagnolo nuovo record brake caliper adjustment rubber grip ring.

I needed O rings for a set of Deltas I recently acquired, instead of spending $23+ for a full set on Le'Bay I bought a 20 pack each of 14mm and 11.2mm ID nitrile rings for $18. Perfect fit - I'm set for life.

Unfortunately the cable stop is in the drive side and the caliper cable arm is on the non drive. Do I put the cable between the stays or do I pass over the seat cluster. Hmm.
I took apart a Suntour Pro Compe freewheel. Inside was perfect so I regretted that nearly instantly but it still gives me assurance it is in good condition. 1/8" balls, 41 on the bottom and 36 on the top.
