Mid 80's LL BEAN
Believe this is actually a Cannondale (model unknown) branded for sales at LL BEAN. Just finished (actually got a little lost) the Tully Lake trail in Massachusetts. I'm a road guy, thus the LOOK pedals being used. Horrendous shifters! Probably a decent frame, but needs a better drivetrain. I know nothing about MTB's!

Put the knobbies back on the 930. Gonna put this to use this winter. I don't ride it much, as I prefer my roadies, but it sucks to let such a nice bike just sit there.

these days a set of decent thumb shifters is pretty cheap if you just want it to work.. and maybe have to replace every 5 years.

and way better than all the crap in the previous 20 years

Mostly all original save for the consumables. except the grips i believe are original .
Deore XT Deerhead/600 except rear brake (Suntour XC Roller Cam) and Rear Derailieur. Shimano Light Action with alloy Dura Ace guide pulley. which is 100% stock. not sure why light action and not Deore XT?
Tires are Ritchey MegaBites

Maybe the deerhead derailleur got swapped out?

Here is another nice old school MTB I acquired recently. 1999 Cannondale F500. Had to swap out the Headshok because it was dead to a standard shock. Good components on this one and solid to ride.

After deciding not to use my 85 GT Timberline to commute I was looking for something else, bumped into to this Trek Singletrack 950, when I brought it home I wasn't to sure of its age as it has rapid fire shifters, come to find out it's an 1989 and most everything is marked MADE IN THE USA including frame, bars and wheels, pretty much all original beside the shifters. I changed out the seat, grips, took off the toe clips(straps) and added the rack and bags as well as the lights and mirror. I think this bike will work out great for my commuter!

I have an 89 950 also, I had a blue one like yours but sold it a few years ago... I really should pull this white one out for a good romp soon...

Cool! I'm really liking my 950, I actually just got home from a ride Now if I were buying a new Trek 950 back in 1989 I would have had picked the white one like yours, I like the blue but white just looks great!
Here's the bike I bought back in 1991, still have it!

After looking for one of these, I finally scored a cheap complete Haro Extreme in great condition. This is a 91 and they were made in USA (tacked in Mexico and welded in SoCal)
I used to have a 92 back in 91 until I crashed it in 93. The 91 uses smaller diameter tubes than the 92, probably to deal with the cracking above the front derailleur. The 92 also had a seatpost collar that slipped off and broke easily. They both use odd seatpost sizes (26.4 for 91 and 29.4 for 92) and the OEM seatposts used chromoly shafts.
Its good to be reunited with an old bike. Bonus NOS 93 Stumpjumper picture

Nice Extreme. I was really intrigued by E-stay bikes and just had to have one. I spent a lot of time looking and finally got an almost original '91 Impulse Comp. One step below the Extreme. Surprisingly nimble bike.

Fat Chance
Hey guys, first post here on a bike I JUST picked up. These pictures were taken before I even got the bike inside, as I wanted to document the starting point, down to the spark plug screwed in the pedal hole. This is my first vintage MTB, and any suggestions on what direction I should go will be taken well. I am no stranger to restorations and I also own a 1973 Schwinn road bike which is my daily commuter for college.
Anyways, I found this bike in the middle of no were Mississippi, and it feels like an amazing barn find. I did some googling on what "FAT CHANCE" meant, and I knew I had to pick up the bike.
The bike has undergone some sort of 1x conversion, and the biggest chain ring has been ground off. The smallest front chain ring is missing, if you're wondering what is going on there.
Let me know what y'all think!

Any Chance is a good bike,IMO. Congrats! If it was mine, like my other old mtb's, I'd try to bring it as close to original as possible.
But it's all on you and what you want to do with it. Keep us up to date with the build.
