I am thinking about having a dynamo front wheel built, and I am debating between going with either with an Boyd Altamont on SP Precision PD8 hubs or DT Swiss R460 on Son Hubs. The DR Swiss wheel is cheaper but coming from starbike.con while the boyd would be about $200 more, but come from the LBS where I bought the bike (and they would remount they tires for me as part of the price).

Does anyone have any take on the relative quality of these two rims?

If it makes any difference the rear wheel is currently a Boyd Altamont and the front is a WTB i19 (the rear rim broke, and All City paid the repair cost for me).

I'm not into dynamo hubs, but if I was going to put one on my bike I would-
Buy the HUB that meets your needs.
Rims are relatively generic when it comes to suitable choices. Pick one.

OR are you just buying pre built wheels that offer no choice in hub/rim selection?

IF you're trying to be a weight weenie with very low spoke count/light wheels, do you really want to use something like that in the dark?

I am happy with either of the hubs, they are both quite good. It is mostly a question about the rims
not the hub.

Rims should match if possible.

As Bill noted, rims are pretty generic. I would go for the DT wheel since I would never consider paying an extra $200 just to have the LBS mount the tire.

And, no, the rims don't have to match. This is a bike, not a fashion accessory.

This depends upon the OCD level of the owner. ;o)

Has to be higher than mine. Two of my bikes have mismatched rims, mismatched hubs and even mismatched spokes. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.
