I rolled on Monday and Tuesday following my usual bike commute route. The smoke is def not going away so I drove today and left the bike in the garage. How about you?

not currently. i distinctly remember a time in november like in 1993 or 1994 when i was enrolled at ucsd. skies had been gray/ashen for two-three days because of a multiplicity
of fires in the region. blew off class and drove up to the san berdoos. hiked to the summit of mt. san gorgonio (highest point in socal) along with some cross country peak bagging
on the way back. a 360 degree view from any of the several summits looked like mushroom soup with a bunch of peaks sticking out but the air was divine and the temp was mid-high 40's.
it was such a relief to get up there and see some blue skies. definitely was in zero rush to return. totally different than the may gray/june gloom effect.

<knock wood> It's been clear as a bell here in the IE. Our prevailing winds are from the N/NE, so it pushes your coastal smoke right back atcha. The only time it gets smoky/smoggy is when the wind pushes in from the west, and we get all of the muck out of the LA basin.
The sole drawback to the wind is I live right at the northern corner of the valley, so if it's windy, it's headwinds on the way home. Today was just 6mph, but that's enough AFAIC.

Not at this moment. Been riding GMR/GRR for a few weeks. Haven't had the need to hit the village just as of yet but if I were to start and a fire broke out behind me, I know I wouldn't have a problem making it to the village!

Down here around Seal Beach/Long Beach it hasn't been too bad. My wife did come home from work yesterday with a real bad cough. There was a small fire next to the freeway and she apparently got a couple of lung fulls. I can smell it a little in the air so I think I'm going to take a couple more days off before heading out. I've gone out before when I thought "It's ok" and then ended up coughing up stuff for the next 3 days.

All clear here in coastal Orange County. Only issue is the wind, but that's been more of a steady breeze than an all-out Santa Ana windstorm. And its making for some spectacular waves, great surfing.

Strong smell of smoke in Hacienda Heights area. Winds have calmed down. Experiencing a lot of throat irritation. Thinking about riding in the San Gabriel Mtns tomorrow.
My Terrier just keeps looking at me and wants to go on his daily walk. Nips at my ankles to get me in motion. Not today Buddy!

Strong smoke smell for Hallowe'en. I think we're downwind of the San Bernardino fire (30 miles away!). Not so bad today, but my wife said I couldn't ride. She's usually right, so I listened to her.

I rode again Friday. It seemed ok. Today, too. I climbed a long hill today and felt pretty wiped out near the top. I’ve been slacking on my big hills recently, though, so it’s probably not fair to blame it on the smoke.Hocked up a couple of thick ones...

Hi all, even when there's no visible smoke, the so cal air quality can be bad for us cyclists. PM 2.5, particulate matter that is super fine (2.5 microns or smaller), gets into one's lungs and doesn't come out--it's been the pollutant of late. Download the South Coast Air Quality Management's SCAQMD app and it'll tell you current readings as well as forecasts. If it's "moderate" and I must ride, I will adjust my ride effort accordingly or go to a better AQ area. Some days, I just don't ride if it's too bad of AQ. Anyway, I find it handy.
