Overmountain Victory Trail

Well, gastro and I went to Kerr Scott Reservoir (Wilkesboro, NC) today. There is a super sweet, 8 mile piece of singletrack out there called Overmountain Victory Trail. We rode it out and back and it’s pretty much the coolest trail I’ve ridden, well…. almost ever. I won’t go into a long winded spill about the berm after berm, totally buff, flowy, swoopy singletrack that just oozed buttery, super sweet corner after corner. Oh my dang! Really, it was really that freaking awesome. I had thoughts of shooting a little video and taking lots of photos along the way, but that never really happened. I had too much fun riding.

In this section of trail you had to set up a little low in the first berm to be positioned to rail out the second berm.(slow in, fast out). There was a descent bit of relief from the entry of the first berm to the exit of the second. (it was super rad!)

That was our first serious holy crap this trail is off the freaking hook type moment.

It was shortly there after we realized the true radness of the over victory trail. We only stopped to take photos one more time. After that I really had no interest in taking photos. The trail was seriously that munch fun to ride.

Mah bike after the ride…

Cheers!

( I’m sorry I could not document more of this trail through a series of .jpg’s, but let me tell you…. Holy ****zs!!!!1!!1 One of my top 3 rides, fer sure! )

The guys and gals who designed and built this trail did an incredible job. Big props to BMCC for all their hard work. Next time we go out there I'll do a better job of documenting the ride. I'll also do a better job with posting about it. That last photo says a lot about the original post i made last night.

It's awesome - I've never ridden a trail with more sustained flow. And between the OVT, Burn course, Super D course, DS course, and the new Warrior Creek trail, there's definitely enough riding up there to justify a camping weekend.

Where are the rocks? Where are the roots? Where are the loose leaves over the trail? Boy, I've ridden in NH so much that I wouldn't even know what mountain biking is without soul sucking rocks and roots.

That trail is not only beautiful, but also excuisitely maintained. Good stuff.

Looks almost as groomed as a golf course. Well compared to the ruts I see when I hit the trails down here.

The other trails in the area have more rocks and roots, but this one was mostly super smooth hard pack. I don't think I've ever ridden a trail that had so few roots. It was a treat for sure.

Fellas,

How opposed would you guys be to showing a VA rider around those trails sometime this summer? I'll buy the first few rounds!

Out-of-stater, eh? Hmmm...I guess we could work something out.

We probably won't be able to get back out there 'til mid to late June. If you want to go sooner, just PM for beta.

OT: do you ride Pandapas? I went up there last fall and had a good time.

One question, how does the Rampant fare on a trail such as this, compared to a Dawg? Two very different bikes.....

Not that dissimilar really - I think tire choice makes a bigger difference than bike. Fast rolling semi-slicks are the hot ticket unless it starts to rain - which it did.

Yeah, i don't know about that... I'm sure the rampant was a little more fun in the corners.
The dawg did just fine though, outside of having too much tire.
