Scene from OverDrive (cycling anime)
While it has been discussed briefly on BF before, I uploaded a scene from OverDrive, which is an anime about cycling to YouTube to show to a friend, and thought it might be interesting (or amusing) to some of you.
OverDrive is about a freshman who gets coerced into joining his high school cycling team even though he doesn't know how to ride, but his team quickly notices he's a natural sprinter. They soon enter a local 1-day road race. The majority of the series details the events of that race and cycling strategy, the strengths of various types of riders (naturally the team consists of one climber, one expert downhiller, the aforementioned sprinter, and an all-rounder/domestique.) The anime borders on the ridiculous most of the time and is a HUGE shill for Trek, Shimano, and Pearl Izumi through and through, but is still rather entertaining, also sometimes educational.
The scene I posted is of the final 500m sprint to the King of the Mountains prime in the middle of the race. If you don't want to know who wins I suggest you stop about halfway.

Pretty cool. I love anime, but now bicycle anime? Sweet. I love the fact they used actual names (Trek, Tiagra, etc.); nice touch.

The "official" sponsors are PI, Shimano, and Trek, but I noticed many other names like on the competitor's frames (though sometimes intentionally mis-spelled), also there was a mavic neutral parts car somewhere near the end of the race.
I actually wonder if the entire anime is partially a ploy to get japanese viewers interested in cycling; the main character's bike is clearly shown to be a Trek 1200 at some point in the series, and continually they show the Tiagra componentry, meanwhile some of the seasoned pros in the series are riding nicer components. Maybe they sort of wanted to get the whole "underdogs can still hold their own in a race regardless of the bike" idea going.
Unfortunately, there's no US release, so you'd be stuck watching it in japanese with no subtitles if you imported the DVD's, but there are (legal!) fansubs available.

I managed to find a fansub torrent of it (the same one you linked to, actually). I'm enjoying all the marketing embedded in the melodrama. It's almost as bad as Korea TV drama.

Sorry to ressurect a very old thread but I think alot of people forgot about this already and probably can't see it anyways cause it needed downloading.
but this year someone put the entire series on youtube!! With english subs!

This link is to the first episode and the rest are all linked to each other on the right hand side of the related videos.
i'm halfway done and it's a pretty cool show! This guy even had most of the initial D episodes on there too! love watching this at night.
Oh yeah anyone that watches it should thumbs up on their episodes, at least it'll give him some incentive that we're watching it and he'll probably put up more goodies in the future.

Obviously not the scene from the "overdrive" version I was thinking of.
