Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Garmin heart rate monitor belt too loose

My wife wanted to try my 305 and then buy one but we found the belt too loose even at the tightest setting. Seeing how thin/lean cyclists often are, I'm sure others would also have faced this issue? - any suggestions other than cutting and re-stitching the elastic band?

The Polar belts come in different sizes; I'm 250 lbs and wear a XXL. Check for the Garmin.

Hot glue (fabric glue stick).

Holds through washing, yet can be pulled apart with no damage to the fabric. I use it on helmet straps and on my Camelbak shoulder straps.

The safety pin did not work - did not hold it tight enough and signal was lost. I think I'll just cut and shorten the elastic band.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

The 705 strap, when fully tightened, leaves about 15cm of buckle-to-buckle length ... too short for anybody. So how can it be too loose?

The 305 strap looks similar on the Garmin website, though might be totally different. If so, then use zip-ties and a piece of plastic as en expander.

Thats odd - the belts must be the same but mine at its smallest is 30". I checked again to see if I'm missing something.

I have a 305 chest strap. I just shortened it up as much as it will go - about 26" in total length (monitor and elastic) depending on how you measure it.

If you look closely at bangkok's picture it looks like he has re-routed the strap at the connecting ends somehow, or it came that way on the 705. Either way, I don't see how the 305's strap can be routed that way and not slip during use.

Thanks - sounds like the right answer BUT, I guess I'll just buy her one regular and stitch the strap short permanently. Cheaper but just cant be done with my strap as it would still need to fit me.

exrunner,

tried that re-routing but its just not possible.
