Tough ride this morning despite a day off riding yesterday and a nice tailwind this morning. I walked a lot yesterday so maybe my legs were tired from that. I still made decent time but I had to work for it. Plus I caught every red light on my route, so I was continually having to stop and start. Hopefully this afternoon will be easier, but I'm not expecting it because I'll probably have a stiff headwind. Oh well, at least it's not raining.

Sorry, as a Canadian (who admittedly does not cycle year-round) I snickered a little when I saw the picture of the cyclist riding a bare, dry trail. Here's an article from my neck of the woods about a year-round cycle-commuter...this is what winter cycling means to me! https://www.edmontonjournal.com/life/...964/story.html
Crisp cold and uneventful commute in this morning.

This morning at McDs 2 guys were standing around by one of the bicycle racks. Since they effectively blocked that one I parked at the other and went in. I get a cup of coffee and take it to work on weekdays. Took 3-4 min.
When I came out one of the guys was standing near my bike looking at it. As I unlocked and got ready to leave the other walked a bike up to me and said, "Hey. Since you have 2 lights and I have none how about giving me one of yours?"
I turned him down but felt for him. But as I'm riding off I notice my headlight which I left on the handlebars is pointing straight up. Somebody had loosened the mount and tried to take it off. Now I'm miffed but it's not worth going back and giving them a piece of my mind. From now on I guess I take the headlight and computer in with me. And make sure the front quick release wheel is locked too.

Pretty cold this morning, maybe 32-34F. Sunny though, nice ride.
I can't figure out how to keep my glasses from getting all fogged up. Any tips?

23F this morning with decent headwind. Radio announced 15F with wind chill (haven't heard that term in awhile). It's my new record low temp and other than running a little slower than my normal slow and frozen boogies in my mustache it was a nice ride. Hoping the wind stays steady for the ride home

Weather forecast was off by quite a bit for last night. I was expecting -12C, but it was -17 when I left the university and -19 by the time I got home. Most of the blown-in sections of the MUP had been plowed, so I made it home without getting too cold. Near the end of the MUP I saw another guy with a fatbike. I didn't get a good look as I was blinded by his helmet light.
-10C this morning with a light headwind. Cars weren't even doing half a lane change to go around me today. I had to stop 2/3 the way in to add my outer mitts.
I've noticed that despite continuing to "lose" weight' the weight on the scale has gone up a few pounds. I guess 500km on the Pugsley is building some more muscle.

I have an icebreaker merino balaclava but the material is too thick to breathe through so I haven't used it for cycling.

I have a balaclava with a mesh breathing hole that is good at preventing fogging down to about -12C. I also have a very thin Kombi merino wool balaclava that is thin enough to breathe through easily and is good to just below freezing.

Exhilarating! Reminded me of sailing. Redwood City California, windy, rainy. 54.0 °F
Still trying to figure out how to keep my feet free of rain water seepage.

It was in the high 30s today both ways and my body and legs were plenty warm, but my feet and especially my fingers were cold. I was wearing heavy socks and running shoes and use neoprene gloves, so I guess they are not adequate. My pinkie on my left hand gets painful when it's cold (and other times too) so it was not very comfortable. I'll try some real winter type gloves, and maybe see if my neoprene road shoe toe covers will fit over my gym shoes. I guess I could ride my road bike too, but I'm more comfortable on my converted MTB.
I'll try riding in again, but I don't know how much longer. Call me a wimp but at 57 I'm not going to get crazy about this.

22F out, 35F back. clear in the morning with large flurries in the afternoon. only problems one section of the trail that makes up a portion of my commute has had some heavy equipment traffic. not a problem in the morning, as it's frozen, but in the afternoon it's about 4" deep mud. little extra bike cleaning.....bleh....
i've stopped wearing riding glasses (which i never thought i'd do) due to fogging and pull my balaclava (UA Coldgear) up to just under my eyes. the warm air venting upward means no eye discomfort from the cold, down to 16F so far.

Coldest morning commute so far this fall, with temps in the mid-20s F and heavy frost. We continue to have stiff winds out of the north, which makes for fast commutes in the mornings and slower ones in the afternoons. My legs were surprisingly fresh after feeling like lead yesterday until I caught a very long red light, which stiffened up my muscles. The dufus in front of me fell asleep at the wheel and just sat there when the light finally turned green, so I went around him. I think he missed the light, which must have ticked off a lot of drivers who were lined up behind him.

Near perfect riding weather. 62ºF, no rain, light traffic. The only problem was the 10-15mph headwind slowed me down a bit, and made me a couple minutes late to work.
I was overdressed. I was expecting about 50ºF, so I wore a light windbreaker, and full-finger gloves. I was burning up when I got to work.

Cold! I've also been slow this week which I'm blaming on the toe I broke over Thanksgiving but I know that doesn't really account for just having less power...

I was pooped at the end of yesterday's ride home, I should start using my mtb a few days a week to save some strength.
This afternoon it was -13C with a 33kph headwind and light blowing snow. It was not at all an enjoyable ride, 73 minutes of riding time and 15 minutes of non-moving time including an 11 minute wait at a train. I had to push pretty hard for that 73 minute time, with my HR in the mid-150 to mid-160 range for much of the trip. Probably the highest calorie commute so far, I'll have to check the count when I upload the garmin data tonight.
My feet were get very cold toward the end of the ride, but at least they didn't go numb. I need to just leave my heated insoles in my boots for the rest of the winter. I have them with me for the ride home, but they aren't something I'd want to swap out in the middle of a ride. I'm glad I decided to wear my respirator, so at least my face was warm. The amount of effort I was exerting the rest of me was warm enough too without being sweaty.
If the wind stays up, it should be a pleasant ride home. I'll have to see if I've got another ride in me when I wake up tomorrow.
Update:
Ride home was fun, but not particularly fast despite strong tailwind due to polished ice in the park and blown-in MUP sections.
Garmin data for the ride in shows Avg/Max HR: 158/175, Avg Speed: 12.9kph and 800 calories burned.

First ride in three weeks, hurt my back at work couldn't get Dr to give me release to ride and I didn't want to risk the workers comp claim, my poor bike sat at work for three weeks, so I rode it home and felt sooooo damn slow.

Pretty mild today, around 10C/50F with a bit of light rain.
Almost ran over a bunny.

Great commute with temps a little warmer tho still chilly (low 30s F), with low humidity and mild headwind. As a bonus, there was a beautiful sunrise. Rode my fast commuter bike with a very light load because I didn't have to bring lunch or any clothes today, so I made good time despite catching every ride light. (I spent 10 minutes sitting at red lights.)
