From today’s ride in the Brushy Mountains in NC
There is supposed to to be a trace of purple wisteria in the photo below
Found this beside the mountain road I was riding. For some reason it made me think of the movie “Deliverance”. I didn’t hang around too long.
Perfect day for 6000’ of hills!
Introduced my new disc brake bike and relatively new hip to some steep hills. 6000’ of climbing over 40 miles with a lot of 10%++ grades.
There’s a natural spring in there if you’re brave enough to open the door!
Spring at 2500’ in NC!
Nice stream just before a 15% Hill.

The bike rode GREAT. It’s stiffer.....but not jarring stiff where every bump jars your bones and joints. With it being stiffer it’s super solid which you really notice and enjoy on descents. I have new lightweight carbon disc wheels that only weigh 1320 grams on it. The rims are a little wider which provides a great footprint for a more narrow road tire. With a 25 mm tire, hydraulic disc brakes and the stiffer frame it descends like a dream. While I’ve always had different bikes for different needs I could easily get rid of the others and just use this one for all my riding (except TTs). The disc brakes are definitely a keeper. Now if I could only get another pound or so off the bike weight......

Good stuff, thanks. I'd never thought about those "mid compact" cranks before. Been using a 34x29 low gear but with a 10 speed cassette. That gearing you have would work for me if I ever decided to get a new road bike.

Today I did a good old fashioned group ride through the Georgia countryside.
Weather was spectacular. Scenery sublime. Great company. Everyone shared the work and we beat each other up pretty good on the hills.
