What ever happened to common courtesy? If I am driving or riding a slower vehicle, bicycle, class A motorhome, etc, if I notice I am slowing somebody else down, I will generally pull over at the first safe opportunity and allow them to pass. I have done that many, many times on my bicycle, as well as motorhome. The law where I live states that a bicycle may occupy the full lane on certain marked roadways. I will still pull far enough off to the side to allow faster traffic room to pass. Just because the law says I can do something does not mean it's always wise.

I suspect he won't get off easy after the court reviews the video.

Going back to the original thread story, according to this news article from five days ago, the driver (Marshall Grant Neely III) will change his plea from not guilty to guilty.
From the article:
"If convicted of the federal charges, Neely could face prison time. He could spent from 2 to 12 years in prison on the reckless aggravated assault charge; up to 5 years in prison for lying to a federal agent; and up to 20 years in prison for obstructing justice"

Even if there is a sightline far enough ahead. Passing on narrow road is not exactly a smart move.

To bring this to a close
He got 10 months jail and is facing a $1.5M civil law suit
https://www.tennessean.com/story/new...ng/1190603002/
What's bizzare is that people get far less for killing someone. I think the difference here is that he left the scene and then lied to police.
Thank God for the cameras.

Something I did not see (or missed?) is that hopefully he will never be able to drive or own a vehicle again. His actions are despicable and appears to have no regard for human life, the bicyclist was so lucky to not have been killed or injured worse, hopfully he gets everything he can get on his civil lawsuit.
We need to have examples set because these types of motorists are becoming more and more common. I have had my share of incidents and the police seem to not help matters much and the perpetrators continue with their dangerous behavior toward cyclists (and myself.)

Thanks for the update, I was wondering what happened. He will make new friends in the lockup, hopefully it's prison and not jail.
