We're going to yell at you.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We're going to yell at you.

A "charity race" is something like a MS 150 or a cancer ride or the like. I have never been almost taken out so many times like in a charity ride. morons ride these things like there is a 6 figure prize at the end. I rode the MS 150 to cape cod and there was 4 major crashes. broken collar bone at mile 2. broken hip at mile 10. then 2 more pile ups. simply amazing.

last year i raced in a real charity race. they do exist. i got my @$$ handed to me. this one benefited the kids for the local libraries. https://www.lovellrec.com/lovelltour.html

Geez I had no clue....I just signed up for MS150 here in AL. Work was promoting a team and I get a free jersey. I just thought it would be another summer group ride, is this not the case? Should I start training?

Nah, you'll be fine. Just be careful and avoid both the speeding idiots, and the "barely able to ride god bless em they're still out having fun" road hazards.

The sarcasm is that its not a race, but some people act like it is.

Second, if/when you take someone out on a group ride and they die, what should their family lawyers press for in court? I'd go manslaughter for criminal, and then take everything you own in civil.

Third, as has been suggested before, lighten up, Francis.

Yelled at someone today. Briefly considered pushing him out of my way. Guy swerved... he was trying to answer his cell phone as I was overtaking him.

Letter.

Spirit.

Law.

No judge or jury would convict a person for assault for putting a hand on your hip to protect a bunch of other people.

That's a sick twist on malicious compliance; you'd be protected by the law, and you'd be prosecuting a person who attempted to keep you from possibly hurting others.

Figured I'd stop by this thread again. Never gets old.

I have to say, even though the first post makes the OP sound maybe a little snarky and full of himself, I'm reading his book right now and it's definitely good. You can thank me for a few cents of your next royalty check.

Ok, I wasn't thinking in terms of a "hip bump". This thread started with talk of yanking people off their bikes by their jerseys. That is what I was referring to.

I think the OP and others meant pulling people out of the paceline by their jerseys in order to protect everyone else on the ride, including the rider being pulled out of line. They aren't trying to hurt anyone or humiliate anyone. Sure, it might sting, but that happens to everyone when they first start.

There is a time and a place for a squirrel to learn; it is not on the weekly hammerfest at 30mph.
