Oversized and Over priced rear derailure cages??
WHY are the over sized rear derailure cages with oversized chain wheels so ridiculously over priced at more than $400?

I assume those are from Ceramicspeed? I don't think that there are too many players in that game, so lack of competition may be a significant part of it, as are the better quality bearings. That said, there are off-brand models available in the ~$100 range.

If they work, how come Shimano etc don't have larger pulley wheels in at least their top end lines (eg. DuraAce)?

Compatibility vs marginal gains is going to be a big part of it. Larger upper jockey wheels are going to give you less room for cogs and many of these products only support 28t cogs and smaller. Wider gearing ranges are "in" and Shimano really likes their compatibility charts (and they do come in very handy) and they're not going to make a mess of that for (literally) a couple watts.

Because people buy them for exorbitant prices hoping it will make up for a fitness deficiency. To my knowledge, the only product that does that is an E-bike.

It's about marketing. If they priced them at $49.95, you might not think they were worth bothering with. But at $400? They've GOT to make you a LOT faster if they cost that much!

Its not even "a couple". Its less than one watt between dura ace and even the most expensive botique stuff. Infact more like 0.15w to be more specific. Complete waste of time and money considering DA wheels are 1/10 the price, and drop in replacement in a ultegra RDR as well.

CeramicSpeed does claim a >2W difference with the OSPW system, although most of it is coming from reduced chain tension. That's always a fun one to demonstrate to people: take a setup with a cheap BB like a UN55 or whatever and a low-end Shimano MTB/Trekking derailleur, and spin the drivetrain backwards. It'll often "beat" a lot of high-end road stuff, simply because the derailleur's tension cage is loosely-sprung.
You cant save more than you loose to begin with and the DA pulleys comes in at 0.16W according to .. CeramicSpeed .. :-) Just click the link posted before.

I would like ceramic beatings for the increased service life compared to steel beatings, but for the price difference I can replace steel units several times over and still have some scratch left over for beers.
