What happened to my tire?
This is my front tire. A couple of weeks ago I was riding a trail for the first time on my Giant Sedona. It may be important to note that I weigh about 250 pounds. Anyway, the rear tire went flat and I had to get an inner tube replaced. All seemed well. Fast forward to a couple of days ago and I aired up my tires before my ride like usual. Both tires needed about 10 lb also as per usual. I was riding around the neighborhood which is all asphalt. I noted a kerplunk kerplunk from the front tire but it wasn't flat. I finished my five mile ride. Yesterday I noticed the tire was completely flat. I go out today and find this. I can't get it to hold air so I guess the inner tube is also damaged. But what I can't figure out is what happened. Any advice?

Looks to be a side wall scuff damage to me. It happens to be located along the strip of serrations so it's a bit obscured. Wouldn't be the forts tire to survive the initial injury only to later fail. Andy

Looks like some of the tread coming off the casing, possibly from poor vulcanizing, but just as well could be accidental circumstance. If this is new tire then maybe ask the tire manufacturer about it. Or if this is a new bike, then ask the bike manufacturer or bike shop you bought it from. There might be a warranty that covers it and save you a few bucks.
Of course the pic is hard to get perspective. Are you actually pulling the bead away from the rim and that white is the rim strip/tape inside?

Clear example of tread coming loose from the tire carcass. Could be manufacture defect or inadvertent damage. Either
way tire is defunct.

Are you "pulling" the tire our of the rim for th e picture? If so, then that looks like the damage is right on the part of the tire that sits against the rim. If you ride with low pressure, then the tire sidewall could be getting "cut" by the rim. I don't want to advocate over inflating your tires, but under inflation can be bad as well.

A slightly out of true front wheel with a brake pad a little too high so that it rubs the tire in that area? I'd check my brake pads to make sure they do not touch the edge of the tire when the brake is applied.
