Modern road shoes long?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Modern road shoes long?

Hi all,
Thought I'd upgrade my old road shoes so I've tried a few pairs on in my size and they all seem to fit OK but they all seem long? Quite a space at the toes, is this common or just specific to shoes I've tried. These are Boardman Carbon and also Shimano RC5.
Just wondering if others finding this.

Thanks.

To ask the obvious question, did you try a half-size smaller?

Try on a wide version in a smaller size.

Fit okay and long doesn’t sound like they fit okay. Modern road shoes are not inherently long. But some are too narrow for sure if you have fairly wide feet. I have moderately wide feet (not silly wide, but above average) and find that wide fit road shoes work best for me. Shimano do wide fit sizing, as do Lake and some Fizik models. Lake actually do several widths in each nominal size, so could be a good bet. Specialized shoes also tend to have a reasonable width. I realise you are talking about length, but I think you really mean they are too long for the correct width ie really too narrow.

Different brands of shoes fit differently. There is no standardized fit or shape of a shoe for any specific size that some big standards organization specifies.
