It's a Raleigh SP 1000 Titanium. Made in 1994 with Reynolds 753 main tri and 531 fork and stays. Heres a pic, anybody know what it goes for? Or an original catalogue with it in it?



I've changed the handlebars and wheels/tires since i got it. I'll post a pic of it soon when i got the rear brake cable to the proper length and wrap the bars up.

The sticker on the frame says Composite Reynols 753 Mang-Moly Titanium.

There are a couple chips on the main triangle down to the metal and it wont rust, Ti doesn't rust right? And i have a couple chips on the drop outs and those are rusted a little.

You sure it doesn't say "Technium"? The Reynolds stickers would mean the bike is made of steel. Freaking nice, light, steel too.

Thats what is annoying me, i have no idea why it says Titanium on it. I'll get an upclose shot of it obn later tonite or tomorow. My buddy used to have a technium nice bike. But i've never seen this bike anywhere online before.

yea thats the only website i ever found that listed this frame and i didn't find it to be a reputable source of information.

I just read up somewhere that 753 had very little lead so it was unlikely to rust. But why would they put Titanium in the frame name and on the material sticker? Can u make an alloy of steel and Titanium maybe?

Lugs were Al alloy, tubing could be anything with that process. Think Vitus bonded, or Trek who played with it for a while as did Raleigh USA.

Well that's definitely a weird duck: 3 different metals: titanium, bonded to aluminum lugs with steel alloy (753) stays and a good ol' 531 fork... I'll bet you can get shortwave radio signals through it when the sunspots are active! So...what do you think of the ride? Can you compare it with a steel frame you've ridden with similar geometry and components?
No, Ti won't rust, and no, I don't think anybody alloys steel with Ti; far as I know 753 has ZERO lead in it, and lead also won't rust...but steel, including 753, will.

The Technium 450 in my stable has steel lugs, extending 2 or 3 inches into the main tubes, (magnet sticks to it) oversize Aluminum main tubes (magnet does not stick) and steel stays.
If it follows the old technium style it may have steel lugs bonded to titanium main tubes with 753 stays.
Try the magnet test: if it sticks you can be sure it's steel or iron - just remember: the lugs may extend into the main tubes a couple of inches.

And lastly, that is a mighty fine bike.

Once i get it back from the shop i'm gonna try and stick magnets on it on the lugs and what not. I'll keep everybody informed.

This is a Raleigh bonded frame from Raleigh Special Products in the UK. They introduced frames with these bonded lugs around 1990 and the Ti model was introduced in 1992 and sold them in the UK under the Dyna-Tech name. The frame number may help date it. The colours and graphics used for US market were quite different to those used on the home market. Reynolds 753 forks were standard equipment with these frames and the rear stays were 753. They made a number of models of bonded frame; some with steel tubing - they made an all 753 bonded frame which was incredibly light and a metal matrix tubed frame. The metal matrix alloy used was a very sophisticated, a very high grade of aluminium metal matrix from BP that was much stiffer than that used by Specialized. But they never made any with straightforward aluminium tubing, the only aluminium used was in the lugs.

i just noticed another sticker on the downtube, it says USA Seattle Composite Technology. It has a design right above this text that shows a red stripe above a blue stripe (has a star in it) and another red stripe. Pictures will be here soon once i get the camera back from my brother. Thanks for all the help again.

I'm used to my glued aluminum Sakae that feels like I could crumple it up like a 16 oz beer can, so a titanium/steel composite, or light steel tubed, frame sounds great.

i have no complaints but i'm not a monster of a rider either. i weigh 155 (heaviest yet, legs keep growing and i keep eating) I don't notice any flexing but maybe i'm just blind to that type of thing. I got the bike for 250 in the original picture, did i get ripped?

I know absolutely nothing about this bike except what I read in this thread, but it sounds to me like you got a very nice deal if you paid $250 for the entire bike. I would have thought that $250 for the frame and fork would have been a very good deal. So, FWIW, I for one do not think you got "ripped."
