Cyclocross bike stores in the Bay Area in California

Newbie to Cycling and am narrowing down to Cyclocross to due its flexibility for trails and commuting. I live in the bay area in CA and I am looking for entry level bikes - am having a hard time finding any cyclocross bikes to buy, let alone try in the local stores. None seems to have \ stock any. Craigslist has also been very sketchy..I am trying to keep it under a budget of around $1,000.
Any suggestions for local stores would be a big help.
TIA

Check with Mike's Bikes, they are big CX supporters. If you are close to Walnut Creek ask for Kristie, she is great.
