you don't want to see a picture of my speedo trust me... i've done 39.7mph (i was so annoyed i didn't break 40mph) the fastest ever was that guy in japan that (i think) made it to 131mph before his front wheel came off.

edit - oh wait my speedometer? hehe, i've changed the battery since then so now it says 31mph which is pretty much the max i can get on knobbies around my house.

over 60mph with an average speed of over 40 mph on a 7 mile downhill section of Duncan Hollow trail on Massenutten mt (see mtbr, Va. trails for reviews of Duncan Hollow).the fastest in town was over 63 on a residential hill once. I was scared to death that someone was going to open a car door and ruin my day.

Funny story, if I may...

I mailed my bike to WA state to my parents house 1 week before I was going to fly up to seem them. I had a really nice C-Dale Super-V that I'd decked out to beat the band. I was to stay at my parents for 1 week and then come back to reality. When I arrived, my bike had not yet showed up. I waited 3 more days and it finally was dumped over the fence in a mangled box. I took it outta the box and it was completely trashed. I was beside myself.

My dad said "Here buddy, ride my bike." He pulled out his Huffy 18 speed mountain bike that was everything you wanted in a WalMart bike. I was scared, but I decided..."what the heck", it's better than not riding at all.

My dad drove me up to the top of a mountain and I rode down it (on the paved / gravel road) with him following me in his little Bronco II. When we got to the bottom of the mountain, he said I was doing 55mph. It was the fastest I'd ever gone on a bike and it was on a Huffy.

I still have my Cannondale Super-V DH....as well as a Cannondale Super-V Raven DH.

The pedal bob was horrid on the MOTO FreeRide fork though, and it took a LOT of work and time to get it setup properly......but once you got that bike dialed in, it was a BEAST.

Im jelous of your mountains, and tall hills. The only fun stuff here is state parks with xc trails built in with maybe about 14 miles of natural looking inclines/declines, different terrain, etc. Granted I know of people that came as far as utah to ride here but still. The fastest ive gotten my bike on a flat public road here in florida with knobby tires is 24.2mph.

My fastest was this paved hill in my neighborhood and I was going probably 40-50mph because I was beating cars in front of me and cars in here go around 40-50.

43 mph (68.8km/h). Only happened last week at Mt Dandenong down a steep firetrail. If i had been using skinnier tires at the time and the car that i saw made me touch the brakes a little bit i probably could have reached up to 48mph. I was using a 2.5 at the front and a 2.35 when i did it.
