Supers are in charge of more I suppose, over the others, they look at other mods actions and questions and assist with their duties?
They are probably able to take more actions on the forum and assist the administrator(s).
My best guess.

we all have super mod permissions now. It used to be that there were designated mods for given forums. I am not sure if that meant that other mods couldn't do anything in those forums or not. The vast majority of mod action is deleting spam and banning spammers, so it doesn't make sense to limit us to a given forum for that.
I don't mod in certain forums that have an insular culture. Wouldn't be prudent.
