A Little Bit Different Ciclavia For June 2013
Another Ciclavia Event is scheduled for June 23, 2013. While I have decided to sit this one out yet again, that does not necessary mean that you and yours should do as well.
Here are some interesting things you should know about the next one:
This Time Around
"........The CicLAvia – Iconic Wilshire Boulevard route will connect One Wilshire in Downtown Los Angeles to Fairfax Avenue along Miracle Mile. These two anchor hubs will feature pedestrian zones with performers, activities sponsored by several fantastic museums, programming by some of our community partners, food trucks and more. Additional hubs along the route include MacArthur Park, Koreatown and Mid-Wilshire........."-

- This CicLAvia is signifgantly different than the other events for a couple of reasons.
- For the first time, CicLAvia has a pair of pedestrian only zones for a couple of blocks at each end of the event.
- Additional hubs include MacArthur Park, Koreatown and Mid-Wilshire.
- There are only four car crossings for the 6.3 mile route
- As mentioned above, the event runs for a record seven hours

It was ok. The road needs to be repaved in a lot of places, as people found out something regulars knew, but everybody seemed to have fun. Most of the vendor tents and entertainment were located near Western. Lot of dummies refused to stop to let peds cross the street at designated spots. Was doing my usual Sunday run so didnt ride the entire route (Fairfax to Figueroa).
Got caught up in the bike race downtown...a five lap affair starting on Spring street. Had to kill time looking at stuff and talking at the venders tents/booths until it was over.
Didnt see any free stuff at either event and the prices seemed a bit inflated.
All in all it was a nice day for bikers. Blame myself for not checking out if any events were scheduled so I could plan better to get where I needed to go in my usual timeframe.
