How would you prepare for two 150 mile rides in back to back days...

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Here is the route I will be taking... https://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/me...28383260670780

As you can see, elevation wise it's about the best case scenario I could hope for.

And it's 10 miles shorter than what mapquest estimated... so it'll only be 140 twice.

I'm thinking that the only reason to ride at all in the week prior to the dual 150's is to keep your butt from becoming saddle-sensitive again, and to maintain your bike-fit flexibility. The thing I notice most when I take a few days off is how it takes a little longer warm-up period before I'm ready for the drops again, and if I take a full week off, the next week my butt feels like it's never met the seat before.

On the other hand, there are a lot of reasons to not ride too much. Muscle regeneration, energy stores, etc. I think that the proper amount of riding prior to the event is: 3 days of "warm up plus ten" (maybe that's 20 miles), 1 day of warmup only (maybe 10), and one day of nothing. On that last day, spend the hour you would have spent on the bike just giving the bike a light tuneup so that it shifts nicely, brakes are adjusted, etc.

I wouldn't ride more than 25 miles any days between now and your "event." Take 2 entire days off before the ride. Take it easy on the first day until you're 75 miles into the ride. You'll finish strong, and wake up ready to go the 2nd day.

With two days off before you start the ride, you won't believe how good you feel the morning of the first ride.

Now that he's decided to ignored all out advice, I'm convinced this thread was started simply to brag about the rides.

I'd go with the 'couple of beers the night before and a good sh*t the morning of' preparation plan. That'll get you through it... oh, and a banana, you know, for potassium... maybe have two.

lol, I hope he does do 50, 75, 50, 75 so we can laugh when he fails miserably at this ride! oh yeah, on a strained leg muscle too. i'm with everyone else on this one, good luck, but your body needs a lot of rest

As you're ignoring all the advice given, I'll suggest you completely smash yourself on day one. It will make day two seems so much easier.

you should do a high intensity/short duration ride (something like a training crit) and then a recovery spin the next day, followed by 2 days of rest.

Actually, elevation wise it's not best case. As flat as it is means you'll be pedaling the entire frigging time.

This. Exactly.

Eat and drink during the ride at regular intervals no matter how good or bad you feel.

I have a 206 mile race this Saturday, This is pretty much what I will be doing tonight & the next two days. The recovery spin will be more of a final shakedown for the bike, not me.

Good advice...if your miles are racing miles. If not, just rest.

I think it's totally cool that you're riding through China!

Do whatever you want to prepare, just promise to report back here.

I will report back. I just did 70 miles, and feel pretty good. I've got 50 tomorrow, and then I will rest.

Take some gels for the second day. On a one-day century, I might use one gel, but that second day, I need one just to get going, and will eat 4 total. (In addition to regular bars, of course).

DScott is right -- OP intends to ride to China. I second the notion that he take 2 gels, one for each day.

One gel a day:

Includes all the caffeine you'll need to stay awake.
