Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone riding Ultegra C50 wheels?

For some reason I have started looking into the new-ish Ultegra C50 carbon wheels. The wheels look good and have some nice reviews but I have read the bearings are cup and cone bearings. So that worries me a bit as I have no experience with that sort of hub. Overall I am just curious to know if anyone on the forums here is riding on these wheels, or their more expensive cousins the Dura-Ace C50 wheels, and what your impressions are. Thank you.

I’ve always been partial to cup and cone. It I am old, I understand them and find them easy to maintain.

I have Ultegra C36’s on my latest build and really like them.

Cup and cone hubs are a tried-and-true design that has been around for decades. They are easy to maintain and durable, but do require a little maintenance.

The Ultegra wheels seem solid to me. I'd have no hesitation about buying a set. Watch a few videos and learn how to maintain the hubs and you'll be fine.
