Buying Wheels for a Specialized Diverge Bike-Novice

So I plan on buying a new bike this month, and although still indecisive about buying road/gravel, I'm leaning on getting the Specialized Diverge Sport Carbon. This comes with a DT Swiss G540 rim and Pathfinder Sport 38mm tires. I see that one thing people on "budget" do when they can only have 1 bike is to have 2 wheelsets, a "gravel" one that has thicker tires such as 38mm+ and a road wheel that will use like 26-30mm tires. Are you suppose to purchase more stuff on top of the wheels such as disc brakes and gears? Since the wheel doesn't come with those. I'm new to this concept or to even road bikes in general as I currently own a 29ner hardtail. Do people have a recommended wheelset for the Specialized Diverge?

I would suggest you riding it as is until you find out you need a different wheelset. You might ifnd you will be satisfied with the factory wheels and tires. You also might be able to put narrower tires on the factory rims, if you are not going to be bouncing back and forth on different terrain

Yeah, that's honestly a good idea first

Ride the bike first then if you decide you need different wheels try swapping tires first. Honestly though I would rather have the wider tires even on the road unless it was a mountain bike tire or something more knobby then I might want a different tire. If you are looking to spend the money, spend it on a professional bike fit (dynamic not static) and on any touch points you need to change/add (pedals, saddle, bar tape...)

I've had my Diverge with 700x38c tires for 17 months, riding mostly on paved roads, and I'm very satisfied with the way those tires ride on pavement. I agree with the comments above that you should ride the bike as it is before you decide you want a second set of wheels.
